January 10, 1928 - February 21, 2025
A celebration of life for Violet Wilson will be Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:00am at the Anderson-Burris chapel in Enid with Pastor Jeff Enabnit officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Violet was born on January 10, 1928, on a farm northwest of Fairview, OK, to John R. and Goldie Ione (Smith) Means and passed away on February 21, 2025, at 97 years old.
She attended school at Carrier High School and graduated in May 1947 as the salutatorian of her graduating class. Academics and athletics were always important priorities in her formative years. She married Charles R. Wilson on June 22, 1947, in Enid, OK. Violet was a homemaker for a number of years so she could devote her time to Charles and raise their two sons. As far as her professional life, she was a licensed real estate broker in Enid for a number of years and served repeated terms as the secretary-treasurer for the Enid Board of Realtors. She then worked in the Garfield County Assessor’s office and retired from there after 14 years.
Violet would light up any room with her radiant smile and kind heart. She lived life to the fullest making memories with her family. She was the most generous, caring, and inspiring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her grandkids described her home as welcoming, loving, and filled with savory smells. She always had something in the oven or on the stovetop anticipating their arrival. She was an incredible cook which challenged her sons and grandchildren to replicate her recipes. They were never as good because they would lack Grandma’s special touch.
Many memories were made during Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. She would, almost single handedly, prepare an immaculate feast for the entire family while the grandkids were making memories with cousins in the den playing pool or Super Mario on the fold-out big screen tv. When it came time for bed, grandkids say she was also quite the storyteller.
Violet and family were long time members of the Davis Park Christian Church and in later life when she couldn’t easily travel, she enjoyed all local church services from her kitchen that were broadcasted on tv.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilson, of 65 years and granddaughter, Brook Brandenburg. Violet was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Goldie Means, two sisters, Arlene Hughes and Opal Nickel, and two brothers, Clayton Means and James Means.
She is survived by her two sons, Rick Wilson and wife, Sue of Enid and Ron Wilson and wife, Karla of Mooreland, along with one brother, Loyd Means of Bixby, OK. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and their spouses: Ashlei Wilson, Kimberly and Jack Beneskenazi, Brent Wilson, Kyle and Afton Wilson, Kylea and Jeremy Cartwright, and Kayla and Kevin Finnegan, along with 11 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
