Mary Rumph

The memorial service for Mrs. Mary F. Rumph, 85, of Enid will be held 3:30 P.M. Wednesday October 23, 2019 in The Emmanuel Enid Chapel with Pastor Wade Burleson and Mary’s children officiating. A reception will be held at The Grace Place after the service for family and any friends who wish to attend. Burial will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, October 24, 2019, in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery of Fort Worth, TX. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Mary was born to Joseph T. and Helen L. Terry Coy February 11, 1934, in Oklahoma City, OK.

She was raised during her childhood in Wewoka, OK, and then moved with her family to Houston, TX.

She graduated from Lamar High School in 1951 and then graduated from Rice University with a degree in education. While attending Rice she met the love of her life, Ross Rumph.

The couple moved for his military career and then for his medical residency before making their home in McAlester, OK. She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the medical auxiliary, a Girl Scout leader and in local politics, even stepping up to run for county commissioner as a Republican in a heavily Democratic county.

In 1979, she with her family moved to Enid. She was very active in the Garfield county and state Republican party serving as the county chair and as the National Committeewoman for eight years. In 2011, she received the Ronald Regan award from the Oklahoman Republican Party.

She served mobile meals for more than 30 years and was a longtime children’s tutor at both P.J.’s and the First Presbyterian Church.

She was involved in the leadership of many charitable organizations and humbly helped others with private donations.

She was always supportive of her husband’s medical career and his more than 40 mission trips, even accompanying him on some 20 mission trips. She served God, her family, and her husband as a partner.

She was a gifted swimmer and enjoyed active, athletic activities. She also enjoyed good chocolate and traveling.

She is survived by four children, David and Ann Rumph of Bartlesville, OK., Randy and Susie Rumph of Bakersfield, CA., Dennis and Cathy Epps of Enid, OK., and Robert and Johnny Rumph of San Angelo, TX., grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan, Katie, Wes, Charlotte, Bethany, Benjamin, Courtney, Hayden, Harrison, Rachel, Ryan, Regan and Rebecca, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be made to Enid Community Clinic and Forgotten Ministries with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
