Funeral services for Lydia Ellen Shorter, 92 of Ft. Worth, Texas, formerly of Enid, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Vistine & Rev. Tom Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.

Lydia was born August 9, 1925 at Enid, Ok to Henry and Alta Tapp Martin, and passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017.

She attended Enid High School and graduated from Southwestern Bible Institute. Later Lydia earned her LPN degree retiring from Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She married Freddie Shorter on April 10, 1943 in Enid. During their marriage they lived in several places as Assembly of God pastors and missionaries to the American Indians in the southwest and Freddie’s career with the Federal Aviation Agency.

She is survived by two sons, Phillip L. Shorter and wife Carol Lynn of Trophy Club, TX and Dale W. Shorter and wife Gilda of Ft. Worth, TX.; daughter Janice E. Heck of Tulsa; brother Dean Martin of Missouri; sister Gladys Thompson of Enid; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Bill and Harvey Martin; sisters Jeri Vistine and Bernice Martin, and a great-grandson Freddie Aaron Britton.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hills Children’s Home with Anderson-Burris serving as custodian of the funds.
