Mary Short Ridge

Mary Short Ridge, age 94, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 8th, 2017. Her prayer was to “join those she loved that were part of her life and sing Hallelujahs and Amen in God’s wonderful Chorus.” She was born on September 27, 1923, in Bonnerdale, Arkansas, to Seba Lawrence and Julina Collier Short and was one of five children.

In her formative years she met Jewel William Ridge and were married September 15, 1945. Together they had three children. Mary received her Bachelor Degree in Business Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1945. She taught business at Enid High School and O.T. Autry Vocational and Technical Center (aka Autry Technology Center) until she retired. After she retired from education she served many years in the First United Methodist Church business office. Mary’s love of music began at birth and as she became of age. He sang with her sisters and mother as the Willow Springs Quartet. They performed with The Statesmen and The Blackwood Brothers quartets and other recording artists on stage and radio. She was an accomplished vocalist and performed with the First United Methodist Church of Enid Chancel Choir as a member and soloist for many years.

Mary is survived by one sister, Clarice (Paul) Caver; daughters Mary Lynn (William) Peacher, Patricia Ann (Stephen) Bradley, and Cindy Kay (Edmund) Braly; grand-children Dana Lynn (Patrick) Kuehn, Amy Langdon (Clark) Tingleaf, John Richard (Samantha) Ridge, and Mary Catherine Bradley; and great-grandchildren Carter and Christopher Bogie, Zachary and Nicholas Kuehn, Piper and Langdon Tingleaf, Madisyn and Dallison Ridge. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held December 14th, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph, Enid, Oklahoma 73701. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 at the funeral home.
