The services for Jerry John Hager, Sr., a 90-year-old resident of Enid, are set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Garriott Road Church of Christ, 3601 West Owen K. Garriott Road, Enid, Oklahoma. The memorial service will be officiated by Ray Rose. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Jerry John Hager, Sr., was born August 23, 1934, in 416 West Indiana, Enid, Oklahoma to Joseph and Mabel Hager. He passed away August 6, 2025 at home. Jerry attended Enid High School through his junior year at which time he joined the Navy to serve in the Korean War. It was during his service he obtained his G.E.D. Upon returning to Enid after service in the Korean War, Jerry met and married Marsha Daneen Hager, the love of his life. They were blessed with three children and five grandchildren during their marriage of over sixty-seven years. Jerry went to work for the Enid News & Eagle which became his thirty-year career. He rose to manager of the composing department, and had the pleasure of
working with his brother, Arthur, who was manager of the distribution department. After thirty years with the Enid News & Eagle, Jerry accepted a similar position with a newspaper chain in Illinois where he and Marsha relocated. They lived in Illinois eight years until retirement, and then returned to their one and true home, Enid, Oklahoma.
Jerry was an avid runner and member of the Enid Running Club well into his 80s, golfer, handball player, and as a triathlete he was a member of the Stotans. These endeavors always took a back seat to God, wife, and children. Above all, Jerry was an
active, committed member of the Garriott Road Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder. Jerry was a patient husband and father with a wonderful sense of humor. He never tired of sharing a meal or time with family, church family, and friends. He never ceased sharing the gospel and welcoming all to Christ.
He is survived by his brother, Michael Hager and spouse Donna, Enid, his children, John Hager and spouse Patti, Edmond, Mark Hager and spouse Tere, Austin, Texas, and Shelly Hager Crumley and spouse Chris, Kingwood, Texas, and his grandchildren, Jackson Hager, Austin, Texas, Joshua Hager, Nacogdoches, Texas, and Corrie Hager, Austin, Texas, Emma Crumley Truong and spouse Kevin, Houston, Texas, and Sarah Crumley, Buffalo, New York, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers: Joseph V. Hager, James C. Hager, L. Arthur Hager, and Richard D. Hager, and sisters: Erma Hager Marney, Nancy Hager Ritchey, and Norma Hager Robinson.
