October 19, 1936 - January 8, 2022
Carolyn left the loving hands of her family on January 8, 2022. She was born October 19, 1936 in Amber, OK to Millard and Etta "Emmaline" Lindsey. She graduated from Pocasset High school, but not before marrying the love of her life her senior year, Donald Phillip Savage on 1/22/1954. They were blissfully married for 60 years and 6 months and known to all as "Savage and Hussy".
The young couple started their married life on the family dairy farm. Eventually they moved to Pocasset and lived in and ran a gas station. Carolyn was in charge of the gas station by herself, pumping gas and caring for 3 children while Donald was off completing Oklahoma Highway Patrol training. Once Donald completed his training, they were transferred to Buffalo Oklahoma, then to Beaver where they made lifelong friends. The door was always open to everyone they knew, as well as an occasional wayward stranger Don brought home for a hot meal. Carolyn always provided food on the table, a place to lay your head if needed, and never-ending enjoyable conversation. Friends and family came from miles around and always received comfort and hospitality in their home.
In 1973 Don was transferred to Bison. Carolyn continued her revolving door of welcome, embracing the community and taking care of all those in need. She filled some time working as a school secretary and a dental assistant. When Don retired from the OHP, they eventually moved to Arkansas for him to work in the trucking industry. Carolyn did as always and became friends with those in their neighborhood, lending a hand when needed. As family and grandkids visited many memories were made. Picnics behind the trailer home and fishing at the pond, then of course ice cream at McDonalds. Upon Don's retirement they moved back to their home in Bison and continued making memories with the family. There are many fond memories of Christmas Eve with lots of food and lots of laughter, memories of shooting squirrels out the back door and of course, multiple escapades of rearranging furniture. Sitting around the table laughing about when she was being "taught" to ride a motorcycle, teaching her daughter in law how to cut up a chicken, and most of all how to fold a fitted sheet are among other fond family memories.
Carolyn loved the Lord and loved her family unconditionally. She loved being with the grandkids and was always teaching them Bible verses. She continued this throughout their lives, being a strong base for their growing faith. She also taught them little songs that may or may not have been appropriate but always got a giggle out of them. She had a special place in her heart for her two great granddaughters and was always encouraging her grandkids to have more babies. Carolyn will never be forgotten for her unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
Before her departure, Carolyn told the family "Savage" was coming to get her to take her home. We never doubted it. The reunion of the two of them would have been beautiful to see. Well done, good and faithful servants. Rest in peace together again in God's loving arms.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Waukomis Methodist Church.
Carolyn joins her beloved Donald, her parents, and her older brother Roy. She leaves behind her children: Scott and wife Kimberly, daughter Kim, Jeff and wife Sharalee; grandkids: Kara, John Scott and wife Sarah, Phil and wife Ashley, Micah and husband Travis; and her very special great grandkids: Myriah and Lola. She is also survived by her siblings: Judy Lindsey, Lois Shook, Don and Patsy Lindsey, and Katie and Max Kaiser, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends their appreciation for her special caregivers Liz and Kathia Ortega who loved and prayed for our mother and provided comfort through their loving hearts and hands.
The family will celebrate their mother and her life well lived in a family only service, January 13, 2022, 10:30 AM, at Waukomis Christian Church. Due to COVID wearing masks are requested. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to: Humanity Hospice, OMRF, Waukomis United Methodist Church, Waukomis Christian Church.
