Harold Roy Dykstra

May 3, 1937 - February 16, 2023

Harold Roy Dykstra was born on May 3, 1937, in Minneola, Kansas, to Reimer Roy Dykstra and Catherine Lucille Golliher Dykstra. Harold would later welcome his sister, Sharon, to the family.

Harold lived his early years in Kansas. He wrote of his many childhood adventures and memories in “Harold’s Ramblelin’s”. In March of 1945, the Dykstra family moved to Seibert, Colorado. Harold graduated from Seibert High School in the class of 1956.

Harold married LaNell Mason in 1957, and to this union five children were born; Rick, Carmen, Kathy, LaVon and Rob.

Harold graduated from Fort Hayes Kansas State College where he majored in Industrial Arts. He moved back to Eastern Colorado to teach school and coach at Vona. He went to work for Ralston Purina in 1968, and was a sales manager there for four years. He then worked for Triple G, Grant Brothers Agribusiness for two years before joining his dad, Roy and the Dykstra Ranches, Inc. in Seibert, Colorado. They were successful raising cross bred cattle and paint horses.

On March 13, 1981, Harold married Jean Davis Jones and was blessed with two more children, LuAnne and Warren. They enjoyed 39 happy years together and enjoyed traveling, camping and loved nature. Harold and Jean were involved in many ministries over the years. He was a chapter president for the Stratton-Burlington Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and served as president for Cattlemen for Christ in 1988-1989.

Harold was an avid hunter. He proudly displayed his trophies in his home. His biggest accomplishment was the big horn sheep. He looked forward to going elk hunting each fall with his family and friends.

In October of 2012, they sold their ranch in Colorado to relocate in Ames, Oklahoma. They immediately became involved in the local church, bible study groups and community. Harold was especially passionate about teaching the youth.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his wife, Jean, and granddaughter, Amber Richie.

He is survived by his children, Rick Dykstra, Carmen Huckeba, Kathy Richie (Jeff), Lavon Ellefson (Doug) , Rob Dykstra (Mililani), LuAnne Detrick (Steve), Warren Jones (Terri), and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
