Enid Director Hosts Screening Of Local Film

ENID, OK - Local residents were treated to the special screening of a 30-minute film produced right here in northwest Oklahoma. Patrick Wine, writer/director, invited family, friends and crew to screen his latest short film "Net Worth."
-
Guests were invited to a small theater located in The Pick Antique Mall. Refreshments greeted audience members as they arrived for the Friday night screening and the small venue was near capacity as Wine introduced the film and recognized cast and crew.
-
Spectators sat quietly throughout the 30-minute screening and erupted into applause as credits rolled at the end of the film. Wine again recognized cast and crew and took questions from the audience. After a quick Q&A, viewers were treated to a fun blooper reel.
-
Wine, an Enid High School graduate, is a sophomore at the University of Colorado in Boulder studying film production. While hanging out in Enid last summer, he and two friends decided to produce the film using local talent. They had collaborated on the prior short, "Ad Astra," as well as a few commercials entered into national film contests.
-
A casting call was held in downtown Enid with about 40 people auditioning for the limited number of characters. Volunteer actors and actresses came from as far as Fairview, Ponca City and Burlington just to fill the roles. Most of the actors in the film had no prior experience with a speaking role in a movie.
-
Wine said the inspiration for the film was, “money isn’t everything." He described how people can have money and everything they need but still not be happy. It's the friendships and memories that are more important than the money.
-
The short film chronicles the story of a millionaire that fires many of his employees because they are no longer assets to his company. After his most loyal employee quits and accuses him of being a miserable person, the main character fakes his death and goes on a transformational journey. In the end, he discovers that people are more important than money.
-
A small crew of young filmmakers managed the entire production. The crew included Patrick Wine, writer/director; Aaron O'Banion, director of photography; Caleb Black, sound design and boom operator and music composer Andriy Sovetov. Wines girlfriend Hannah Tomlinson helped on the project as another crew member, and also acted in the film.
-
Local cast members include Dale Murphy as the main character, Fadilia Barton, Linda Severin, Chuck Lipps, Larry King, NeAnne Clinton, Kathy Motycka, Hannah Tomlinson, Christopher Sneed, Natalie Beurlot, Jennifer Kanmore, Martha O'Banion, Lenita Krejci, Jordan Preston, Hunter Grimm, Jude Bashaw, Landon Collins and Brooklynn Phillips.
-
Although the film was created without a budget, it was produced by Wine and his parents Jacque and Stanley Wine. Several property and business owners throughout northwest Oklahoma donated locations and materials for free. Actors volunteered many hours for their acting roles.
-
Wine has already submitted the short to multiple film festivals but plans to enter more including Student Academy Awards, Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Tallgrass Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.
-
Wine has worked as a photographer and cinematographer/videographer for several different organizations and business, including GEFCO, Visit Enid, Main Street Enid, Fireball Run Adventuralley (TV Series), KJ Filmworks, Skeleton Creek Productions (“Canyon Trail”), Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, Loaves & Fishes NWOK, Enid Public Schools, Enid Television Network, Fly Film Festival, and more.
