Main Street Enid Doing Good Things

Main Street Enid had their annual social where they presented their annual report. Silly awards were also handed out and new board members were introduced. There was a great crowd on hand and plenty of food and drink. Ty Tompkins played host and George Gividen entertained on the piano.

Kelly Tompkins, Executive Director, and Estela Jantzen, Assistant Director, continue to create and manage many projects that impact the heart of Enid. They have continued their partnership with Keep Enid Beautiful to add irrigation to the corners around the square, and they have provided beautiful new plants and flowers.

A Placemaking Partnership has been developed with the Enid Metro Association of Realtors in an effort to create a Pocket Park in the Breezeway on Randolph, making it a space that people can enjoy more often by meeting for lunch, reading a book and enjoying the art.

First Fridays have reached a whole new level of participation, attendance and excitement!. They now have approximately 30 places open for shopping, dining and entertainment, compared to approximately 7 locations participating three years ago.

Tompkins revealed that $1.1 million was privately reinvested in our downtown in 2014, bringing the total since 1994 to $36.8 million. The Economic Restructuring Committee plans to coordinate parking solutions over the next year, as well as creating a business start­up kit.

Food For Thought, their micro grant funding dinners, support local creativity and entrepreneurial spirit by awarding the entry fees collected to a project voted on by those in attendance. Our partnerships with the Enid Regional Development Alliance and Park Avenue Thrift triples the grant amount. A total of almost $10,000 has been given to winning concepts.

Main Street Enid is exploring the costs and possibilities of developing upper floors of downtown buildings into much­ needed residential space. They are calling this Loft Living. This coordination effort includes possible Historic Tax Credit projects and they’re working on a Sprinkler Program to incentivise upper floor development.

A special thanks was given to the City of Enid and Park Avenue Thrift for their loyal support of Main Street Enid projects. Awards created from used items purchased at Park Avenue Thrift were handed out for various made up categories.

The meeting ended with the introduction of the board of directors and the passing of the torch from John Arend to Cammeron Kaiser as next years President of the Board.
