July 22, 1932 - February 9, 2025
Edith Agnes (Johnson) McCaslin, known to most as Agnes, was 92 years old when she passed away February 9, 2025. Agnes was born July 22, 1932 and was the last surviving of five children born to Elmer B. Johnson and Edith May (Gallup) Johnson. She was born and raised in Cushing, OK where she graduated from Cushing High School May 26, 1950. A mere two days after graduation she married the love of her life, Otis Lee McCaslin, at the Assembly of God Parsonage in Cushing. They were together nearly 74 years, until his death February 29, 2024. They lived in the Cushing area and followed the oil field patch for a time, moving permanently to Enid, OK in 1964.
Agnes is survived by her children: Darrell and Mary McCaslin of Madison, WI; Janice and Fred Buffalo, and Barbara and Jerry Buffalo both of Enid. She is survived by five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Agnes’s life focused on turning houses into homes for a husband, whose long career up the ladder in the oilfield business, involved moving several times while following the patch. She shouldered most of the day-to-day responsibilities and burdens involved in raising their children. Agnes actively supported the children’s various school activities providing chauffeuring to varied events, involvement with their class projects, and in direct class room assistance. Her children participated in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Blue Birds and Agnes served as an adult leader in support of these activities. She developed many skills in the kitchen including canning the bounty gleaned from the large garden Otis was known to plant every year. At family gatherings, her fried chicken and pecan pies were especially favored by everyone. As her children left to pursue their lives Agnes developed a penchant for making all types of candy which was a delightful treat during holidays. On the home-front, she took pride in her yard and the flowers that grew there. She was particularly fond of her roses. She was skillful in knitting and crocheting until arthritis made the work too difficult for her hands.
Agnes immensely enjoyed time spent with members of her family. Agnes’ presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life service for Edith Agnes McCaslin will be 11:00 AM, Saturday February 15, 2025 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron McCaslin officiating. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.
