Clay Andrew Downing a 28-year-old resident of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2025.
He was born on February 23, 1997, at Bass Hospital in Enid. Clay was the beloved son of Roberta Yesenia Barton and the late Paul Emory Downing, as well as stepson of Shaun Eric Barton. Clay grew up in the Enid and Drummond communities, attending Enid Public Schools before graduating from Drummond High School. He later earned his associate’s degree from Northern Oklahoma College, a milestone that made his family especially proud. Clay worked for several years with Atwoods in their business office, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impression on his coworkers. Clay will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet humor, and loyalty to those he loved. He was a devoted son and brother who cherished time with his family. In recent years, Clay and his siblings frequently visited San Antonio to visit his mom and stepdad, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
He is survived by his mother; Roberta Barton, stepdad; Shaun Barton, his siblings; Justin Orion Downing, Christopher Blake Downing, and Heather Lauren Detamore; and his grandparents, Maria de Jesus Vogt and James Arthur Vogt. He is also lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles: Gabby and Terry Winegarden, Teresa and Antoine English, and Billy and Kara Vogt, along with many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Clay was preceded in death by his father, Paul Emory Downing, and his older brother, Michael Scott Downing. To his family, Clay was more than a son and brother, he was a light, taken far too soon. His mom will forever hold close the memory of her “Clay Clay” and the bond they shared. Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Clay’s family invites all who knew and loved him to gather in celebration of his life.
