ENID, OK - City of Enid Commends Margo Holmes for her inclusion and Language Learning Advocacy
The City of Enid is proud to recognize Margo Holmes, Program and Development Coordinator at Enid Public Library, for her hard work in creating an English language learning opportunity for Marshallese speakers to our community and beyond. She first suggested the idea, and after years of dedication, the program is now available from the Transparent Language learning platform available through the Enid Public Library.
Holmes understands how important language is in helping people succeed. She explained why this program matters, saying:
“Enid’s Marshallese community has deep historical roots tracing back to the Cold War era. It now makes up about 5% of our city’s population and has become an important part of Enid’s culture and economy. Offering English classes for Marshallese speakers helps them get better jobs, communicate with their children’s schools, improve their healthcare, and take a more active role in the community.”
Her effort has made a real difference, helping members of the Marshallese community build brighter futures in Enid. As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month this May, the City of Enid is proud to recognize Holmes for her dedication to inclusion, education, and community support.
Holmes was formally commended at the City Council meeting Monday, May 5, where the City officially recognized her contributions.
We invite residents, businesses, and visitors to join us in thanking Margo Holmes for doing her part and investing in Enid’s future.
