Hofmeister Speaks At Greater Enid PLAC

ENID, OK - The Greater Enid Parent Legislative Action Committee’s kicked off their first meeting at Autry Technology Center on Thursday night. Organizers of the committee are Roxanne Pollard, Jennie Scott and Sally Clickner.

PLAC was described as nonpartisan and being a partnership of parents, grandparents, teachers and other stakeholders. The group is being formed to build relationships, share information and effect advocacy in Oklahoma public education.

State legislators at the event included Sen. Roland Pederson, and Reps. Chad Caldwell, Denise Crosswhite Hader, and John Pfeiffer. EPS Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd was also on hand and spoke to the group.

State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister was the guest speaker. She spoke about being part of a PLAC and how it lead to her eventually running for office. She believes that education reform is needed and talked about ACT and SAT testing.

Caldwell and Pfeiffer also addressed the group. Caldwell spoke about how to effectively approach legislators about education concerns. Pfeiffer gave details about how bills are created, modified and passed during a session.

Shawn Hime, Oklahoma State School Boards Association executive director, will be the speaker at the next Greater Enid PLAC meeting on April 18 at 6 p.m. at Autry
