Verda M. Wampler

April 28, 1941 - July 23, 2021

The Funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Verda Mae Brakhage Wampler, 80, of Enid, will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday July 30, 2021, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Verda was born April 28, 1941, to John William Brakhage and Mable Catherine (Henneman) Brakhage in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life July 23, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma.

As a child, she attended Liberty School, Okeene School and graduated from Cleo Springs High School. While working in Fairview, Oklahoma she met Oscar Stubbs, the couple was married December 19, 1967 at her parents’ home, in Cleo Springs. They moved to Enid, where she started working for various nursing homes.

She started working for the Enid Police Department in 1982 and later retired form the department in 2004.

She married Glen Wampler on July 2, 2000.

After retiring she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed vacationing in Tennessee, going to casinos, and playing Bingo.

She is survived by her children Derrell Stubbs, of Enid, Greg and Dena Stubbs, of Enid, and Sally and Daniel Jenkins, of Liberal, Kansas; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Retha Ann Digman, of Enid; sister-in-laws, Fannie Stubbs, of McColl, South Carolina and Joyce Brakhage, of Gastonia, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lesley; one brother-in-law Russell Wickens; and husbands, Oscar and Glen.
