Twilla J. Montgomery

June 5, 1929 - October 9, 2023

Twilla June Montgomery, 94, of Enid Oklahoma, passed peacefully at her home on October 9, 2023. Twilla was born on June 5, 1929, in Norton County Kansas to John and Bessie Grose, the youngest of six children.

Twilla was raised in Almena Kansas during the depression and attended Almena schools. After WWII, her first date with Charles Montgomery was arranged by Charles’ brother Rex. Twilla and Charles married on March 8, 1947. They celebrated 72 years together until his death in 2019. They were blessed with 7 children and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Twilla was a wife, mother, and friend. The family moved often, living in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and Oklahoma, but they made lasting friends at each stop along the way. She still regularly communicated with several friends and with her extended family.

Charles and Twilla retired to Enid in 1985. In retirement they remodeled several homes and frequented auctions and garage sales. Twilla was very competitive when playing cards and games, enjoyed camping club and crafts.

Twilla was preceded in death by her husband Charles, three children Dennis, Susan, and Sandi, her parents and brothers and sisters. Twilla is the last of her generation in our family.

Twilla is survived by Son Steve (Paula) Montgomery, Springfield, MO; and daughters Ronita Coldiron, Perry, OK; Janet (Bob) Glace, Waterloo, IA; Joetta Botts, Enid, OK, and dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family expresses our sincere thanks for those who prayed and shared their love and acts of kindness for Mom in so many ways. Special thanks to the angels from Circle of Love Hospice for the comfort given Mom and our family.

In recent years Mom was very dedicated to morning devotions from the book “Jesus Calling – Enjoying Peace in His Presence” by Sarah Young. Two years ago, Mom prayerfully confessed and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. Jesus pursued her; we have the assurance that she’ll be eternally in His presence.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
