ENID, OK - The 22nd annual A Fling at the Springs music festival will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. and running throughout the afternoon and night. It will be at Government Springs Park in Enid, Oklahoma. The family-friendly music festival is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to be prepared for cooler weather when the sun goes down.

"We have full bands all day and we're doing something we've never done before. We have the same headliner this year that we had last year - Kin Faux. They're such a fun, high energy band and everyone loved them so we asked them back," said Tammy Wilson, one of the festival coordinators.

The lineup for this year's festival is: Dually Noted, Van Damage, The Peachtrees, Gus Burns & The Saddle Tramps, Jake Taylor, and Kin Faux.

"This is the 22nd year for the festival and it's done completely from donations and sponsorships so we are truly grateful to the community members that contribute so we can keep doing this every year. Our board is made up of volunteers and we do this because it's important to us to bring attention to live music and hopefully introduce new music to the community," said Michael Dotson, another festival coordinator.

Each year the Fling board awards The David McCoy Memorial Scholarship to a local student for music lessons or to go toward their college tuition if they are a performing arts student. Students interested in applying for scholarship funds can contact Wilson at info@enidevents.com for more information.

A Fling at the Springs was created by Enid musician Sylvan Reynolds in 2003 to raise money to fix the fountains at the Government Springs lake and it evolved into an annual festival. In 2010 Wilson joined Reynolds to help with the planning and he later retired from the project, leaving it to Wilson and Dotson. A Fling at the Springs was then turned into a non-profit organization and the board now consists of Dotson, Wilson, Shawn Mahaffey, Travis Layton, and Larry Lewis. Their mission is to support and encourage live music and the arts in Enid.

ENID, OK - Hello Jurassic Park Fans! Guess what? There really is an Enid, Oklahoma that had a Westgate Shopping Center, now called Westgate Plaza! Unfortunately there is not and has not been a Kirby Paint and Tile Plus as mentioned in the 2001 movie, Jurassic Park III.

Being a huge Jurassic Park fan I find it ironic that I was the advertising director for a pharmacy in Enid that had a store located in the Westgate Shopping Center right where Kirby's might have een!
-
Kirby Paint and Tile Plus was a store run by Paul Kirby in the Westgate Shopping Center of Enid, Oklahoma; the “Plus” in the name stood for “bathroom fixtures.” When Paul tricked Alan Grant and Billy Brennan into accompanying him to Isla Sorna in 2001, he claimed to be the multimillionaire owner of the fictional Kirby Enterprises, located at 2600 Cheyenne Avenue (also in Enid, Oklahoma).

Westgate Shopping Center is located on West Owen K. Garriott. Enid does have a Cheyenne Ave. but it is in a residential area. Enid Buzz has been trying to track down the writers of the script to find out why Enid was the city chosen in the movie. As of yet, we have not been able to track down that information.

The characters and idea for the movie came from Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park III writers were Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor.

If you have more information on the reasoning Enid, Oklahoma was used in the movie please send information to buzz@enidbuzz.com.

ENID, OK - The 9th FLY Film Festival will take place at Gaslight Theatre on August 4th and 5th, and will feature independent films from all over the country.

FLY Film Festival is proud to once again have the festival at Gaslight Theatre. Since 2014, FLY has brought “Films Like Yours” to the Enid community and provided a place for filmmakers and audience members to meet and mingle.

FLY Film Festival is a two-day event filled with feature length and short films. They will be screening features such as Hell Hath No Fury, Thank You, Amelia Earhart, Eldritch and The Doc. One of FLY’s nominees for Best Oklahoma Feature is Expunged. This feature tells the story Nick Farrell is a changed man for Christ who tries to make amends with people who he has hurt in the past, but it doesn't always go well. Old deeds still haunt him, and even in sharing the gospel, an old restraining order gets him thrown back in prison. But Nick makes the best of it. Following the screening will be a Q&A with the director and producers on Friday night at 9:30pm.

Event Passes are $10 per day or $20 for both days. Passes can be purchased on FLY’s FilmFreeway page, filmfreeway.com/FLYFilmFestival/tickets or at the door both Friday and Saturday.
The current board of directors is excited to once again bring filmmakers and the Enid community together. “The best part of the festival for me is seeing all the filmmakers network and interact with our community. Oklahomans are so friendly, so I love that we can share that with filmmakers from across the nation and create lasting connections,” said Charlet Ringwald, Treasurer of FLY.

About Gaslight

The Gaslight Theatre of Enid, Oklahoma, was founded in 1966 under its original name of Enid Community Theatre. Gaslight is one of Oklahoma’s oldest and most active community theatres. The theatre has been housed in an old TV studio in the 200 Block of East Randolph, later made its home in a converted warehouse in the 200 block of East Maple and in 1989 came to its present location at 221 N. Independence.

The current theatre was purchased and fully renovated with tremendous community support. Built as the Billings Theatre in the early twentieth century, 221 N. Independence was home to vaudeville and other live performances. Over the next 50 years, it went through several incarnations becoming the Criterion Movie House, then evolved into the Chief Movie Theatre and in the mid-70s became the Cinema Twin, never going dark for any extended length of time.

Gaslight’s mission is to promote and present theatrical productions for the education, enjoyment and literary enlightenment of the Enid area. The heartbeat of Enid’s Community Theatre is that of its volunteers. What makes Gaslight successful is a great deal of work by volunteers, both onstage and backstage and wonderful support from community residents, who give both their resources and their applause to the effort.

Enid Community Theatre’s organizational mission is twofold: to provide a wide spectrum of high quality theatrical entertainment to a broad audience in Enid and the surrounding communities, and to provide a setting for nonprofessional actors, directors, designers, and technicians to learn and practice their art.

Visit their website for the current season, auditions, to purchase tickets and special showings. Also find out about the theatre rental.

ENID, OK - The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), in conjunction with Visit Enid, is proud to announce the City of Enid has achieved ‘film friendly’ certification after completing the requirements for OF+MO’s Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program.

“From national recruitment efforts at the Sundance Film Festival to localized mobilization throughout the state, Visit Enid has been a great community partner for us throughout the years, and champion of the state’s film and television industry,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We’re so proud the City of Enid is the latest community to achieve film friendly certification through our program, and we look forward to working with them to further develop film and television production in their city and the surrounding region.”

The City of Enid is the first community in Northwest Oklahoma to achieve film friendly designation through OF+MO’s Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program, joining nearly a dozen other cities across the state that have received this certification. No stranger to film production, Enid has previously hosted films such as “Wildlife”, the acclaimed directorial debut of actor Paul Dano starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan, and “To the Stars”, both of which celebrated their world premieres at the renowned Sundance Film Festival in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

“Playing host to the cast and crew from ‘Wildlife’ and ‘To the Stars’ was a tremendous benefit for Enid. Not only did these two films combine to bring an additional $2.4 million in direct local impact into our city and the surrounding communities, but several area residents have lifelong memories after providing business services to the crew or playing extras in the films,” said Visit Enid Director Rob Houston. “OF+MO’s Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program now makes it even easier for filmmakers to find all the great locations that Enid, our region and our state has to offer, and we are thrilled to be part of Oklahoma's growing film industry.”

For more information on filming in the City of Enid, visit visitenid.org.

ENID, OK - The City of Enid officials, Public Arts Commission of Enid (PACE), and the Enid Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to the Enid Skate Park “Signing of the Mural” by Kiptoe slated for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 21st at 124 North 5th Street.

Matt Dean, known as Kiptoe, is a mural artist and illustrator based in Los Angeles. Using a bright imagination, he paints with strong color palettes and dynamic movement.

According to Dean, “The acronym KIPTOE stands for Kinetic Imagination Presented Through Our Experience, which means in layman's terms being able to take what you've experienced in your life and flip it into your imagination and be able to push it out into your art.”

The mural at the Enid Skate Park will be kinetic art, having motion and dynamic movement within it. There will be a flow of bright colors that show action synonymous with action and movements surrounding skateboarding and scootering.

PACE board member Christy Northcutt said, “It has been amazing to watch him create the mural. We are excited for what this will add to the skate park and our community.”

ENID, OK - As part of Main Street Enid’s “July First Friday” festivities, Gaslight Theatre revealed their 2021-2022 season to the public. Gaslight announced eleven shows that will be presented this season. A mix of main stage, black box theatre, and off-site productions have been slated for the upcoming season.

“We had a great committee this year who really tried to keep the needs of the theatre and the community at the forefront of our minds. After the trying year our community has had, we believe that we have come up with a great mixture of new, familiar, and lots of fun for our season!” stated Play Selection Committee Chair, Emily Nelson.

This season will commence with Shakespeare in the Park. Due to rain and increasing temperatures, Gaslight will open their season by moving the annual Shakespeare in the Park to mid-September, kicking off with The Tempest directed by Alex Johnson. This year’s main stage productions consist of the following: The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh and directed by Blake Recknagel, Gaslight Teens Presents Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins directed by Catina Sundvall, Exit Laughing by Paul Elliott and directed by Frank Baker, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and directed by Bailey Wilson, finishing with the summer 2022 musical Lucky Stiff, book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens with music by Stephen Flaherty, and directed by Mitch Lyon.

Special productions this season will include the annual dinner theatre fundraiser Clue: On Stage, based on the classic Hasbro board game and 1985 Paramount Pictures film, with the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn, written by Sandy Rustin, and directed by Charlet Ringwald. Specifically for kids, the annual children’s theatre will be Puss in Boots by Michele L. Vacca and directed by Carmen Ball. Later in the season, Kids Drama Camp will feature their production of The Little Mermaid, headed by Camp Director Catina Sundvall.

This season, Gaslight will also have two black box productions in The Turpin at Gaslight; the first is War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast adapted by Joe Landry, directed and produced by Chad Swanson. Based on the infamous 1938 CBS radio broadcast, this show was postponed from 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. The second will be Edward Albee's Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf directed by Tammy Berry.

Tickets will be available soon and reserved seating has resumed for all main stage productions. Patrons can purchase the Six-Pack Ticket Package, with each of the six tickets good for one seat to any of Gaslight’s main stage productions. Audition dates can be found on Gaslight Theatre’s Facebook page, with auditions open to all. For more information about Gaslight auditions and productions, please visit gaslighttheatre.org.

The Gaslight Theatre of Enid, Oklahoma, was founded in 1966 under its original name of Enid Community Theatre. Gaslight is one of Oklahoma’s oldest and most active community theatres. Enid Community Theatre’s organizational mission is twofold: to provide a wide spectrum of high quality theatrical entertainment to a broad audience in Enid and the surrounding communities, and to provide a setting for nonprofessional actors, directors, designers, and technicians to learn and practice their craft.

ENID, OK - The work of Oklahoma artist John Hammer is on exhibit at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center. The exhibition features selected works from three of Hammer’s themed series titled, Peculiar Portraits, Tattered Aesthetic, and Stop: Fifty Ways to a Better World. The curated exhibit will be on display at the Heritage Center during regular business hours from June 26th through August 21st.

“John Hammer’s work is bright, exciting, and full of character. And, he has the ability to both challenge and entertain you at the same time,” said Heritage Center Director Jake Krumwiede. “The wide range of colors in his work really make the painting jump off the wall. It’s an exhibit you won’t want to miss.”

The works displayed in this exhibit come from three separate themed series. Tattered Aesthetics explores subjects that are common to anyone that has driven down an old Oklahoma county road. They depict oil pumpjacks, derelict cars, and old forgotten buildings. All the subjects share a common theme of being lost to time.

“Peculiar Portrayals comes from a need I have to freely sketch with no pre-determined outcome. The portraits are first sketched in a small sketch book and then refined in a larger pencil sketch before screen prints, linocuts, paintings, sculpture, murals, or any other variety of art forms. The refined concept here is to display how one unique sketch idea can take on multiple identities just by changing the art form in which it’s rendered,” said Hammer.

The final series, Stop: Fifty Ways to a Better World, highlights the many different problems that plague society, that follow a distinct, unified theme.

The artwork on exhibit is available for purchase, with selected prints also available.

The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is located a 507 S. Fourth St. in Enid. For more information, please call 580-237-1907 or visit www.csrhc.org.
