T.J. Mosher

Thomas John (T.J.) Mosher of Enid passed away July 20, 2017. T.J. was born January 6, 1918 in Enid, Oklahoma to Tom and Leta Mosher. He was their only child. T.J. worked hard during the depression with his parents to keep the family farm. One example was when wheat was selling for only 25 cents a bushel and he and his father Tom couldn’t sell it. So, they bought hogs and fed them the wheat. When the hogs were ready, there was no market for them either. So they butchered the hogs, worked them into sausage and hams and sold them door to door in Enid in their old car. T.J. also worked at the Mosher dairy in west Enid.

When the banks failed and no one had any money, they just kept milking the cows and delivering milk. Their hard work and trust in God pulled them through the depression. T. J. attended Pond Creek school and graduated from Enid High School in 1937. He played coronet in the high school marching band. T.J. later attended Enid Business College where he hoped to train for a career outside of farming. He was just starting a sales career with the National Cash Register Company when he met Modine Bowman at the College. However, Modine didn’t want to marry a traveling salesman, so T.J. decided that farming would be his career. T.J. and Modine were married on November 19, 1939 and were engaged in the farming business in Pond Creek until Modine’s death in 1992.

T.J. was an entrepreneur. He and Modine started with a faming and dairy business. From 1952 to 1957 they owned and operated Mosher Equipment, an International Harvester dealership which also sold DeSoto and Plymouth cars and Purina feeds. The dealership had the top sales in the district. He also spent many summers doing custom wheat harvesting in Kansas and Colorado. T.J. was a farmer all of his life. He was a life long member of the Pond Creek and Enid Lions Club. He was also a member of the Pond Creek Chamber of Commerce and the Housing Development Authority. He was a big booster of the City of Pond Creek although he lived outside of town.
-
T.J. served on the boards of the First Christian Church, Pond Creek Farmers Grain Cooperative, Farm Bureau and Union Equity for over 30 years. He volunteered in the radiology department of St. Mary’s Hospital for 13 years and spent several years volunteering in S.C.O.R.E. - counseling small business owners. He enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, exercising at the Y.M.C.A., driving his 1964 Ford convertible in parades and travel. T. J. worked hard, had many friends and enjoyed his long full life.
-
T.J. was a member of the Pond Creek First Christian Church and was baptized in 1957 at the same time as his daughter Jo Ann. T. J. is survived by his wife Ann, the former Ann Shipley Kincade whom he married in 1993, daughter Jo Ann Mosher Thomas (Bill) of Montrose, Colorado, 2 grandsons: Brian Thomas of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Scott Thomas (Mindy) of San Antonio, Texas and 9 great grandchildren: Mara, Gabriel, Bryn, Andrew, Finnian, Emry Modine, Anya, Quin and Reed Thomas.
