Gary French

The Graveside services honoring and celebrating the life of Gary French, 74, of Enid will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday May 30, 2019 in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. The Masonic Graveside will be conducted by Lodge # 501. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born September 07, 1944 to Gordon Shelton and Iva Marie (Bielby) French and passed from this life on May 25, 2019 in Enid, Oklahoma.

He attended Hale High School where he exceled as an athlete playing on his school’s first 1A Football team and also played baseball, and basketball. He graduated from Hale High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 and served for eight years as a weatherman and was in the Vietnam conflict. He married LaVonda “Sue” Stevens on September 25, 1965 in Enid. The couple lived in Japan during his service and returned to Enid in 1971. He was the owner/operator of Steven’s Refrigeration. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, the former President of the Exchange Club, a member of numerous Golfing Association’s and The Hole in One Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was an active person and avid Detroit Tigers Fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and never missed the opportunity to attend all of their activities.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty-five years, LaVonda “Sue” French, daughters, Wendy Sue Eckert, Natalie Shea, and husband Bryan Mason, both of Enid, son, Nathan S. French, and wife Andrea, of Enid, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Shriners Children’s Hospital with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
