Sherwin was born on October 25, 1942, in Beaver, OK to Harvey and Betty Ratzlaff. He entered Heaven on February 15, 2025, in Enid after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Sherwin met Carol Loewen at Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS and they were married May 28,1963. They moved to Enid in 1967, when Sherwin became St. Mary's Hospital Lab Supervisor. His main love was farming, and in 1979, Sherwin pursued farming full-time and grew wheat, sorghum, soybeans and cattle for over fifty years. Throughout this time, he grew his agri-business to include Pioneer Seed, Northwest Liquid Feed, and other business ventures.

Sherwin was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served on various boards. He was an active alumni of Tabor College and served on their Board of Directors. Sherwin and Carol enjoyed traveling on family trips and taking farm tours to learn about farming techniques in other countries.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ratzlaff, and their three children, Colleen Squires and fiancé John Eiesenbarger of Lenexa, KS, Cindy Kennedy and husband Randy of Acworth, GA, and Doug Ratzlaff and wife Amy of Enid. He loved his nine grandchildren, Brett Squires, Summer Squires, Cole Kennedy, Kate Kennedy, Will Kennedy, Brooke Kennedy, Wade Ratzlaff, Anna Ratzlaff, and Libby Ratzlaff. Sherwin is preceded in death by his parents.

Sherwin was known for his broad farming experience, wise advice, ability to fix almost anything, and how he could light up the room with his fun personality. He touched many lives and will be missed greatly.

Memorials in Sherwin's name may be made to Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS, or the American Cancer Society, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
