Red Balloon Mystery Explained

-
ENID, OK - Enid awoke on Monday to a multitude of red balloons being found tied to things all over the city. The first thought that comes to mind is that a prankster is trying to mimic the horror movie "It" in which red balloons are found tied to sewer grates all over town.
-
The red balloon is what Pennywise, the child-eating clown who lives in the sewers of Stephen King’s novel “It” uses as a calling card. The story has come back to life with a new movie remake released this month. It originally was a made for TV miniseries released in 1990.
-
Looking a little closer at the Enid infestation of red balloons reveals that each balloon has letters and numbers and the message "Keep Me." This led us to believe that this was going to turn out to be some type of promotion or giveaway.
-
We were contacted on Monday afternoon by Nightmare Warehouse that they were the culprits of the mystery balloon fest. They were using the balloons as a promotion for Enid's best haunted warehouse. There were actually 1,000 balloons scattered throughout the city.
-
A crew of at least 25 in numerous vehicles spent several hours plotting and executing the balloon promotion. Organizers set out late to tie balloons to sewer grates and other objects in the early hours of Monday morning, finishing up around 3:00am.
-
The balloons are actually being used as discount coupons for the haunted warehouse this season. All balloons are worth at least a small discount on warehouse admission. Certain code numbers written on the balloons will be worth more but you won't know until you present your balloon.
-
Here is a statement from Nightmare Warehouse: "We at Nightmare Warehouse want to thank everyone for participating in our visit from Pennywise, the Dancing Clown! We hope you enjoyed the balloons as much as we did! Yes, we are responsible for the balloons, all 1000 of them! If you managed to snag one, bring it to the haunt this year (1 per customer please, if you have multiple, share!) and see what you won at the front desk! There are only two people who know what they are worth, so please don't buy into the public misinformation being spread on social media. We are excited to see you all this year...if you can brave the dark."
