Mary Vencl

March 9, 1939 - April 15, 2024

Mary Vencl was welcomed to Heaven by the arms of Jesus on April 15, 2024. She was the second daughter born to Edward and Edna Washburn on March 9,1939 in Atlanta, TX. Her father was an engineer for Phillips Petroleum and the family moved several times during her childhood, always calling Bartlesville, Oklahoma their home. She and her sister Kay, welcomed brothers Daniel and later David, and thought of them as live baby dolls. Mary graduated from College High School in Bartlesville in 1957, where she was involved in band and other social activities. She attended the University of Oklahoma. She married Robert Vencl of Garber, Oklahoma on July 17, 1964. They had three children, Mike, Jill and Darla and raised their family in both Edmond and Enid. Bob and Mary joined The Christian Church of the Covenant in 1978. In the early 80’s, Mary returned to school to pursue a nursing career. She attended Autry Vo-Tech and received her LPN. Later she attended Northern Oklahoma College with her dear friend Marge Gulick. Together, they graduated in 1988 as registered nurses. She found purpose and joy in serving others as a nurse and had many adventures and travels in her nursing career.

Mary loved others with all her heart and it was reciprocated by those that knew her. She had a joyful spirit and sparkle in her eyes and an unforgettable laugh. She had an uncompromised love for Jesus and she shared her faith with her children and grandchildren. No one brought her more joy than her family. Mary spent the last several years living at Greenbrier Assisted Living and briefly at Rogers Hall in Greenbrier Nursing Home where she often called the staff her best friends. She was loved and cared for with the utmost compassion and dignity.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Edna Washburn, her sister and brother in law, Dan and Kay Tucker and her son in law, Steve Kirk. She is survived by her brothers, Daniel (Teresa) Washburn, and David (Hwa) Washburn; her son Mike Vencl, daughter, Jill Lueke and Darla Kirk; her seven grandchildren, Amanda Robertson, Malia (Brian) Robertson, Michelle Vencl, Makenzie (Joe) Thomas, Matthew Lueke, Cameron (Jordan) Wilson, and Michael Vencl; seven great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Connor, Brennon, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Logan and Stevie; and precious nieces and nephews.
