September 11, 1942 - March 1, 2026
Mary Ruth Hejduk was born in Middlecreek, Miami County, Kansas to Jim and Georgia (Dicke) Hejduk, on September 11, 1942.
She went peacefully to be with Jesus, her Savior, on March 1, 2026, at the age of 83 years, after a brief residency at Greenbrier Memory Care. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mary was the fifth of what would be seven children for the Hejduk family. She grew up in Kansas and Oklahoma, with her three brothers, and three sisters, residing in Lewisburg & Paola, Kansas, until moving to Oklahoma in 1950. Mary attended Hunter, Garber and Covington schools, until 1961. Later on, she settled in El Monte, California to be near her brother, Jimmy, and younger sister, Betty. While living in California she helped raise her niece, Erica, and was a 2nd mom to her, and a devoted aunt to her great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary remained there until around 2008, retiring from Winchell’s after receiving her 30-year pin. After retirement, Mary moved back to her hometown of Covington, reestablishing family connections with her Oklahoma family, including her two sisters, Lillie & Lola, and brother, Bud. She was a member of the Covington Methodist (Community) Church and a valued & faithful part of that worship community. Other than her love for her family, she also loved her precious dog, Boo, who was her walking companion when she used to go to her sister’s house across town. Family was important to Mary; she loved to tell tales on her three brothers and was very close to all her sisters. She could take a joke but could always give them as well. Mary could tell it like it is, if she disagreed with you, and that impish scowl would show up, that was a Hejduk family trademark. Her smile was full of life, and her love for others was evident through the quiet and thoughtful attitude she showed to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death, by her parents, Jim & Georgia Hejduk, her brothers, Jimmy Hejduk, Raymond (Bud) Hejduk, Donald Hejduk, & sister, Lillie Kaiser. Mary is survived by her sisters, Lola Johnson of Waynoka, OK; Betty (Bob) Burns, of Manistee, Michigan; niece, Erica (Jesse) Fausto of Corona, California; nephews Steve (Debbie) Hobson, Allen (Patty) Hobson, Donnie (Cheri) Kaiser, & Jeremy (Sarah) Kaiser, all of Covington, OK; Larry Kaiser, Garber, Oklahoma; & David (Tammy) Hejduk, Rawlings, Wyoming. Nieces, Brenda (Mike) Schram, Covington; Terry (George) Dillman, Guthrie, Oklahoma; Dianna Cathey, Lubbock, Texas; plus, several great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
