Marilyn "JoAnn" (Tinder) Peterman passed away at age 89 peacefully entering the gates of heaven on May 31, 2021. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to Reuben and Grace (Porter) Tinder on November 13, 1931. She will be best remembered as a wonderful mother, loving wife, and special friend to so many who knew her. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Life to be held Saturday, June 26th, 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 419 N. Eisenhower, Enid, where stories can be shared and guests can enjoy the memories left behind. The family wishes to thank Carter Health Care, Hospice Circle of Love and church members for the loving care they provided.
JoAnn attended Enid public schools and graduated in the newly built Enid High School "Class of 1949". She married Joseph "Pete" Francis August 3, 1957; of this marriage and surviving are their children Marilyn Frances Johns, Retha Jo Joslin, Gayla Marie Crum (husband Pete), Robert McGettigan all of Enid, and daughter-in-law Debbie Livingston of Kimberling City, Missouri. "Nana" is blessed to have great memories with her grandchildren Christian Scott Wegmiller (wife Kelsey), Joseph Simmons, Wesley Simmons (wife Shannon), Chancler Crum (wife Katherine), Phillip Crum (wife Audrey), Roberta McGettigan (husband Brian), Kami Burtless (husband Jason), Amber Baker (husband Nathan). She especially enjoyed grandchildren Faith, Grace & Gunner Crum, who have been blessed with her love of music. Anxiously greeting her in heaven are her husband who died August 15, 1994, her sons David, Danny and Dennis Livingston, Larry Peterman, her parents, one brother, 5 sisters, an infant grandchild, and son-in-law Tony Joslin. She will be greatly missed by her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Being a hard-working woman, JoAnn was always busy working at several jobs including Wagon Wheel Restaurant, and as Manager of the Woolworths lunch counter in Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas. She worked as a Certified Nurse Aide at Enid Regional and St. Mary's Hospital giving tender care to patients day and night, yet always taking time to be band mother and homeroom parent for her children. She continued in-home caretaking until finally retiring.
JoAnn enjoyed frying catfish caught at the family cabin on the Chikaskia River near Braman, OK where at one time most of her siblings and their families joined together on weekends. Those were great memories for all of us! Traveling with her daughters, nieces and nephew was always a joy, especially when it meant concerts of her favorite cowboy, Alan Jackson, bluegrass music or watching Thunder Basketball. She loved gardening and growing beautiful iris flowers. JoAnn enjoyed her special birthday parties, listening to country music and dancing to the rhythm of live bands. She was "Mom" to everyone who knew her and never met a stranger who didn't immediately adore her smile and witty humor.
Her strong faith in God and Jesus Christ brought her to be baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she was joined for life-eternal with her husband Pete at the Oklahoma City Temple. She enjoyed learning the Gospel, visiting with missionaries whom she grew to love, and attending church Singles Group activities.
