Marie Olive Jordahl (Rogness) was born on July 13, 1931, on the family farm in Miller, Iowa by a midwife to Theodore Rogness and Malenda Rogness (Rossen). She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on August 1,1931, and confirmed, affirming her baptismal vows on May 1, 1945, in Forest City, Iowa.
Marie graduated from Forest City, Iowa High School and later moved to Garner, Iowa and worked as a switchboard operator while living with her sister Thelma Mitchell. She met Burnell Jordahl at a roller-skating rink and later married him on June 19, 1956. They moved to Ames, Iowa where Stephen Craig was born and then they moved to Seward, Nebraska where Burnell finished his education and where David Lynn was born. Burnell got a teaching job in Chicago, Illinois where their third child JoEllyn Marie was born.
In 1972 the family moved to Enid, OK where Marie worked as a PBX operator at St. Mary's Hospital for 3 years, Enid Regional Hospital for 4 years and then to Bass Memorial Hospital where she retired in 1987. Marie volunteered at Bass Memorial for 10 years and did food demos at the local grocery stores, which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking trips with them and going to Iowa for family visits and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her most memorable trip was visiting her heritage land in Norway with her sister, Alma and her two nieces.
Marie passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the last surviving family member and was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Emmett Rogness, Lester Rogness, and Martin Rogness, 2 sisters Thelma Mitchell (Rogness), Alma Olson (Rogness), daughter-in-law Sophia Jordahl and her husband of 43 years, Burnell Jordahl.
Marie is survived by her 3 children, Steve and (Janis) Jordahl of Yukon, OK, David and (Ranita) Jordahl of Enid, OK, JoEllyn and (Dennis) Elrod of Enid, OK, grandchildren, Ashley and (Cody) Hassell, Kelsey and (Garrett) Rector, and Erik Jordahl, Karissa Jordahl, Daniell Jordahl, and Bradley Jordahl, Nicole Elrod, and Joshua Elrod, great-grandchildren, Harley and Hailey Hassell, Everett Rector, Amanda and Lexi Jordahl, and Audrey Elrod, along with many nieces and nephews.
