Luther Cleaven Bridges – Age 83 of Nashville and Lebanon, TN. June 5, 2025. He was born on December 3, 1941, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Luther and Florella Bush Bridges. He graduated from Central High School. He joined the Air Force in 1960. In 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Marshall.
Together, he and Sandra lived in Louisiana, Idaho, and Hawaii, where Wesley Scott was born. From there, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where Tara Elizabeth was born. Next, they lived in Turkey, from where they traveled to several other countries. They were last stationed in Enid, Oklahoma. He retired from the Air Force, and they stayed in Enid for 31 years.
By then, they had grandchildren, who all lived in the Nashville area, so they moved and bought a home outside Lebanon, Tennessee to be with family.
Luther was Granddad or Granddaddy, and he was the best. He taught his grandkids to ride their bicycles and motorcycles. The neighborhood kids came to him to get their bicycles repaired, or to get one if they didn't have one
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Cleveland Bridges; his mother, Florella Sue Bridges Poe; his stepfather, Richard Furman Poe; and his sister, Norma Jean Bridges. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Charlene Marshall Bridges; his son, Wesley Scott Bridges; his daughter, Tara Elizabeth Bridges McCann (Eric); his grandchildren, Ryan Scott Bridges, Whitney Danielle Carroll (Nathan), Dylan Bridges, Ethan Daniel McCann, Rachel Elizabeth McCann, and Gunnar Scott Bridges; and great-grandchildren, Rylee Jo Bridges, Zane Carroll, and Asher Carroll.
He will forever live in our hearts.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.(visitation 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Interment with Military Honors on Wednesday, July 2, 2925, at 2:00 p.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
