LaVera Rose

The services celebrating and honoring the life of LaVera Alta Rose, 96, of Enid, will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday August 27, 2026 in the Westminster Church with Pastor Mitch Lyon. Burial will follow in the Aline Star Cemetery. The services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

LaVera was born March 30, 1930 to William "Bill" Leonard David and Alta (Hickman) Smith in Dacoma, Oklahoma and passed from this life August 20, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was raised and educated most of her years in her home in Dacoma and graduated from Dacoma High School with the class of 1948. She went on to achieve her bachelor's degree in education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She married Donald O’lary Rose January 6, 1953, from this union came three children, Larry, Anita and David. She was a lifelong learner with many master’s degrees. She taught school for thirty years, receiving Teacher of The Year in 1976. After retiring from teaching, she then returned to School at Oklahoma

State University, OKC and earn her Licensed Practical Nurse degree to then become employed by Heartland Home Health, and in private home healthcare before her final retirement in 2004 at the age of seventy-four. She moved to St. Louis and became a Cardinals fanatic, even taking her patients to games at times with her. She returned to Enid to be near family in 2020. She was an avid reader, enjoyed attending Blake Shelton concerts, crocheting, pie making, making every family member their own “favorite pie”, playing Dominoes for hours, and loved giraffes and cardinals.

She is survived by her children Larry Rose, of Enid, Anita Price, of Belleville, Illinois, and David Rose and wife Cynthia, of Taloga; four grandchildren, Jason, Alisha, Jerry, and Emily, Donald and LaVera adopted their grandson Jerry Rose, of Ringwood at the age of seven; nine great grandchildren; and one brother Merrill Smith and his wife Joanne of Casper, Wyoming; and numerous other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Rose, her parents, William "Bill" and Alta Smith, one brother, Loren Smith and sister-in-law Helen Smith.
