John Dion Suttmiller

The funeral Mass for John D. Suttmiller, 85 year-old Enid resident will be 10:00AM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. There will be a visitation with family Friday evening from 5PM-7PM at the Henninger-Hinson Chapel.

John was born August 11, 1934 in New Baltimore, Pennsylvania to Cletus and Bernadine (Imgrumd) Suttmiller and died Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He graduated High School from Berlin Brother’s Valley with the Class of 1952.

On December 15, 1956 he married Barbara Anderson at Vance Air Force Base. John enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He owned and operated Suttmiller’s Texaco for 44 years….many of those working along- side his sons.

He was a long-time member of both St. Francis Xavier and St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Oklahoma Wrecker’s Association. He was also an honorary member of the Oklahoma Trooper Association and presented a plaque for his service to the Highway Patrol. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but mostly enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and his dog Scruffy.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of the home, Daughters Connie Claypole and husband Joe of Enid and Johnene Barrett and husband Rich of Mesa, AZ., sons Greg Suttmiller and wife Martha of Chandler, AZ and Jeff Suttmiller and wife Nancy of Enid. 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Donald Suttmiller and Cyril Suttmiller and two sisters, Madeline Fochtman and Emma Hemming.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Frances Hillegass and Bernice Diehl.
