Jerry Lee "J.L." Bowen

August 2, 1936 - October 1, 2021

Funeral service for J.L. Bowen, 85 of Hillsdale will be 2:00 PM, Friday October 8, 2021 at the Hillsdale Gymnasium with Dr. Robert Courtney officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsdale Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

J.L. was born August 2, 1936 in Enid to Lynn Jerry and Hazel Mae Bowen and passed away on Friday October 1, 2021 in Oklahoma City.

J.L. graduated from Hillsdale High School and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelors of Science in teaching. On March 29, 1958 J.L. married Agatha Darlene Johnson in Enid at eh University Christian Church at Phillips University. He began teaching in Burdett, Kansas and then they moved back to Hillsdale where he taught history, industrial arts, drivers ed., was a coach and an assistant principle. After teaching he began farming in the Hillsdale area. J.L. loved to throw horseshoes, hunt, and he enjoyed making knives. J.L. was a member of the Hillsdale Bible Church.

J.L. is survived by his wife Agatha; his children Greg Bowen and wife Melinda of Kansas, Kathy Herrera and husband Diamond of Hunter and Jerilyn Brandenburg of Enid; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brother J.C. Bowen of Hillsdale and his sister Lynda Lizer of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lynn and Hazel Bowen.

Memorials may be made through Anderson-Burris to Hillsdale Christian School or Hillsdale Bible Church.
