A celebration of life for Henry Jefferson “Jay” Chambers, 87, will be Monday, March 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the ML Becker Education Center at the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park (1026 S. 66th Street Enid, OK 73701) with burial to follow at Enid Cemetery. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Driectors.
Jay was born to the late William Haskell Chambers and Mary Juanita (Long) Chambers on April 2, 1938 in Copperas Cove, TX. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 in Enid surrounded by his family.
Jay moved often in his early years, and he and his siblings were able to find mischief wherever they went. He loved telling stories of their shenanigans. He married the love of his life, Mary Anne (Smart) Chambers, on September 18, 1957 in Midland, CA, and they were married for nearly 65 years. Their enduring marriage is a testament to their love and dedication to each other and their family. Jay served in the US Navy from 1955-1960 while being stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Coronado Amphibious Base, California, before beginning a lifelong career in the trucking industry. They welcomed three daughters, Debbie, Meichelle, and Kristina, and they were his life. They eventually made their home in Enid, where they enjoyed raising “our girls” and spending time with family. He made many memories and lifetime friends at the bowling alley and was an avid supporter of US military veterans. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who always had a great story to tell.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents; brother Cal Chambers; sister Patsy Chambers; brothers-in-law James Smart, Charles Smart, and Dennis Smart; sisters-in-law Mary “Tootsie” Chambers and Barbara Smart; nieces Cindy Vinson and Vonda Fitzsimmons; nephews Jerry Chambers and Kenny Fitzsimmons.
Jay is survived by daughters Deborah Kraeutner of Crescent, Meichelle Colville (Lonnie) of Enid, and Kristina Pumphrey (Nate) of Edmond; brother Bill Chambers; grandchildren Paula Rauschenberg (Johnie), Jayme Von Schriltz, Tabetha Chambers, Stacie Canning (Jacob), Tiffany Kent (Chad), Tyler Pumphrey, Reed Pumphrey (Lauren), and Brayden Kraeutner; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous additional family and friends.
Our world will never be the same without our beloved Jay/Dad/Grandpa, the strongest and bravest man we could ever know.
