Irene Astley

The Services celebrating and honoring the life of D. Irene Astley, 90, of Enid will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday April 2, 2021 in the New Hope United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Fulligim and Pastor Nathan Oney co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Daisy “Irene” (Slater) Astley was born June 6, 1930 to James D. and Daisy (Stapp) Slater in Belva, Oklahoma and passed from this life March 28, 2021 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

She was raised and educated in Cheyenne Valley, graduating with the class of 1948. She moved to Alva and attended North Western Oklahoma State University and in 1950 she moved to Enid to attend Phillips University where she met her soon to be husband, Glenn Edward Astley. The couple was married November 18, 1950 and from this union came three children, David, Glenda, and Gary. She continued her education and graduated from Phillips University in 1966 with her bachelor’s degree in education. She began working at Taft Elementary School where she taught first and second grade for twenty-three years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons David Astley, of Enid, and Gary Astley and wife Cristina, of Edmond; one daughter Glenda and husband Doug Green, of Enid; she was Grandma to Anna Clair Astley, Dustin Green and Casey Green and wife Tina; she was Great Nana to KinLee, Karsyn, Logan, and Kobie Green; she is also survived by three brothers, Gary, John, and Lewis Slater.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Glenn Astley; three sisters Clara Miller, Louise Pearson, and Maxine Tindle; and one brother Jimmy Earl Slater.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in her honor to the Methodist Children’s Home, Gideons, or New Hope United Methodist Church with Brown-Cummings Serving as custodian of the funds.
