The Memorial service Celebrating and Honoring the life of Helen L. Thornell, 80, of Enid, will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 11, 2020 in the Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church, with Senior Pastor Ron Olson officiating. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Helen was born July 16. 1939 to Donald Whitney Reed and Helen Bernice Reed (Harper), in Englewood, California, and passed from this life on June 5, 2020 at her home in Enid, OK.

Helen was raised and educated in Lawndale, California graduating from Leuzinger High school. Helen began working in a dental office then a bank. In 1959 she married Ronald Austin, in Lawndale, California; from this union came one son. In August of 1969 she was married to Lawrence C. Thornell, in Las Vegas, Nevada and from this union came one son and one daughter. The family made their home in El Segundo, Torrance, and Pleasanton, California.

Helen moved to Enid in 1990, to be near family and began working as a bookkeeper and later as the Executive Director at Enid Senior Citizen Center.

She is survived by her sons their spouses Brian and Kaye Austin, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tim and Tamara Thornell, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and one daughter Michelle Ruiz, of Concord, California; six grandchildren, Brandon Austin, Rachelle Ruiz-Ortman, Robert Ruiz, and Jacqueline, Nathaniel, and Nicholas Thornell; one great-grandchild on the way; one step-daughter and her spouse Teresa and Jake Rake.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church or Hospice Circle of Love in her name, Brown-Cummings serving as custodians of the funds.
