Eva Irene Harguess (Scholes)

Celebration of Life for Eva “Irene” Scholes Diel Harguess will be 10 am Tuesday at the North Garland Road Church of Christ with Mr. Gordan Jantz officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm in the Apostolic Cemetery, Burlington, OK under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Irene was born June 15, 1925 at Kaw City, OK to Thomas A and Luella B Hamilton Scholes. She passed away May 29, 2019 in Stillwater, OK.
She moved to Ralston, OK at age 2-1/2 and back to Kaw City at age 8. They moved to Burlington, OK in 1939 and Irene was there until 2011 then moved to Enid, OK.

She graduated from Burlington High School in May 1943. She was united in marriage to Ivan L. Diel on June 26, 1943. To this union was born 3 sons: Terry Lee Diel, Jimmy Raye Diel and Tommy Dale Diel. They farmed all their married lives. Ivan died June 26, 1975 following an accident in harvest.

On December 22, 1979 she married Daniel L Harguess, Sr and he passed away June 10, 2003. They spent almost 25 years together where he preached the gospel in Alaska, Oregon, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma until his retirement in 1991.
She was a member of the Riverside Church of Christ in Burlington, a member of the FFA Mothers Club and she sang with the Country Girls Chorus. She loved to read, paint and loved people. She enjoyed the Burlington Ladies Coffee Club. She was involved with her church and community activities. She spent 7 years as school cafeteria manager and 11 years as nurse’s assistant with the Kiowa District Hospital.
In 2011, she moved to Enid, OK to be closer to family. She was a member of North Garland Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, two sisters: Irma Cloud, Pauline Fouts and a brother, Danny Lee Scholes; a sister-in-law, Eva Scholes and one grandson, Justin Raye Diel and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving family includes: Terry Diel and Brenda and children: Kelli and Todd McKnight, Caitlin and Jeremy Atkinson, Trace, Caroline; Catherine and Chad Lamb: Christopher Diel and daughter, Reagan. Jim and Judy Diel and children: Natalie Diel and daughters, Savanah and Breanna, Jarret; Casie Brownlee and sons Wren and Jace; Kimberly and Christopher Scrogin and sons Austin, Garrett and Christopher; Kristina and Nathan Redman and sons William and Wesley; Makayla, Derrick and Cooper Shreck and daughter, Elizabeth; Tom and Susan Diel and children: Shawn and Shawna Diel, Karsan and Gunnar; Amber and Patrick Johnston, Maddox, Aaron, Aiden, Wyatt and Ethan; Cash and Andrea Diel and Jamal.
Harguess children include: D. L., Jr and Ruth Harguess and family: Tommy and Carol Harguess and family; Phillip and Kim Harguess and family. There are several nieces, nephews, many other family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Burlington Fire Department, Burlington Education Foundation, Riverside Church of Christ and Lariat Creek Christian Camp with Ladusau-Evans as custodian of the funds.
