ENID, Okla. - Eight-year-old Conner Quintero completed his first trip to the Jr. Olympics as a success!  The AAU Junior Olympics was held in Houston, Texas this year. Athletes compete in several different sports and Conner was there for the 8 & Under swimming division. This year there were over 550 swimmers in the Junior Olympics from all over the United States, Saudi Arabia and Dubai.

Conner was proud to bring home the Gold medal in the 50 Meter Breaststroke with a time of 48.96. He just missed the Junior Olympic record by only .04 second.  Conner placed 2nd receiving the Silver medal in the 50 meter Backstroke cutting 4.5 seconds with a 46.08. He won the Bronze in the 50 meter Butterfly cutting almost one second with a 48.49 and also placed 4th in the 50 meter Freestyle.

Conner has been competing in swimming for four years this August. As a four-year-old, he watched Michael Phelps swim in the 2012 Olympics and began to teach himself how to swim. In fact, that year he asked for a USA swim cap for his 5th birthday. His family recently traveled to Omaha to watch the USA Olympic Trials and Conner was very lucky to meet his role model, Michael Phelps!

Conner is the son of Missy and Josh Quintero of Fairmont and will be a 3rd grader this year at Prairie View Elementary. His family never imaged a USA swim cap and the 2012 Olympics would ever lead them to where they are today. He loves to swim and continues to push himself daily at practices. This is one athlete Enid should keep their eye on!
