Re: Intent to Retire, effective June 30, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of my intent to officially retire, effective June 30, 2023.

I am extremely proud of all of the EPS achievements that have been accomplished over the past nine years that I have had the honor of serving as superintendent (2014-2023). From significant facilities improvements, to academic and extracurricular student achievements, to healthy fiscal management – none of those accomplishments would have been possible without great support from all entities.

I am grateful for the stellar support provided to me and the entire EPS school district by our current EPS Board of Education, as well as all former school board members who give, and have given, freely of their time, effort, and energy in order to better our school district. It takes a team to succeed, and success breeds success. None of that success happens without great support from all stakeholders. I thank our school board members, teachers, support staff, administrators, parents, businesses, and community members for making sure that our students have the best opportunity to succeed – both now and well into the future.

After 37 years in public education as a teacher, coach, middle school assistant principal, jr. high principal, high school principal, and superintendent of schools for 26 years…it will be time for me to retire at the end of June this year. My son and his wife live in Plano, Texas (in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex area). They are pregnant with my first grandchild (a boy due in early April). I plan to retire this summer; then move closer to them. I look forward to spending more time with family, traveling more, and continuing to serve as an adjunct professor teaching graduate classes in higher education principal, superintendent, and doctoral programs – as well as periodically serving as a superintendent search consultant.

I wanted to inform the EPS school board of my intentions now, so that they have plenty of time to conduct a proper and thorough superintendent search for my replacement. Rest assured that I will finish strong. I will continue to serve this school district diligently as superintendent of schools until June 30th, and I will stand ready to help make the transition of my successor a smooth one.

I pray that the next superintendent will be able to build on the successes we have accomplished over these past nine years; but also press on to even greater achievements in the future.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darrell G. Floyd
Superintendent
Enid Public Schools

Floyd has lead the district through two successful bond issues and has been an active member of the Enid community, serving on numerous boards including United Way of Northwest Oklahoma and being a member of Enid Rotary.

EPS will have the position posted at enidpublicschools.org/applytoday and will begin the rigorous search for a new superintendent immediately.
