Dorothy Mae Kinkead

January 23, 1947 - March 29, 2025

Dorothy Mae Kinkead, age 78, passed away peacefully in her home in Enid, Oklahoma, on March 29, 2025. She was born on January 23, 1947, in Elk City, Oklahoma, and later made Borger, Texas, her hometown.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Gayle and Frank Haney; her husband, LeRoy Kinkead; her brother, Gene Haney; her sister, Pat Williams; and her granddaughter, Angel Haynes.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Gay Lynn Wilson and husband John and April Gritz and husband Lonnie; four grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon, Haley and Christina; four great-grandchildren, Kory, Hagen, Kenlee and Zaden, her sister Carol Castle, and in laws, Frankie, Nina, Lou, Jack and Mark. Her family will cherish her memory and carry on her legacy.

Dorothy earned her GED and obtained a cosmetology license, which she used in her career. She worked at the Safeway bakery, was a beautician at JCPenney, and also worked in home health care, always bringing warmth and dedication to her work. Her passions included antique shopping, cooking breakfast for all her grandchildren, gardening, and participating in cherished family traditions. Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially dear to her, and she was known for making the family’s beloved ham and sweet potatoes every year. A devoted animal lover, Dorothy frequently donated to the SPCA, ensuring that animals in need received care and support.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday April 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA in honor of Dorothy’s lifelong love for animals.

"Her beauty wasn't just in the makeup she wore or the way she styled her hair—it was in the confidence she carried and the love she shared."

Dorothy always had a special way with animals. Birds seemed to sing a little sweeter when she walked by, dogs wagged their tails a little harder, and even the shyest of strays trusted her gentle touch. If there was ever an animal in need, it somehow always found its way to her. Dorothy’s love for animals, her kindness, and her gentle spirit touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She had a way of making the world feel warmer, whether through a soft smile, a kind word, or the way she cared for every living creature that crossed her path.

Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, compassion, and warmth will live on in our hearts forever. We will cherish the memories of her laughter, her stories, and the way she made everyone feel special. Dorothy taught us that kindness matters, that love is best shown through actions, and that sometimes, the most special bonds come when you least expect them—like a little cat following you home. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry your love with us always.
