David L. Ott, 64, of Waukomis, died peacefully, at home on 21 October 2023 with his family by his side.

David was born in Poteau, OK on 22 June 1959 the son of Benjamin L. and Arby L. (Phillips) Ott. He was raised and educated in Waukomis, graduating in 1977. He attended NWOSU on a part time basis while working full time as a carpenter with Cox and Overstreet. David learned carpentry by working with his Dad during the summer months beginning at about age 10. David married Sandi Guzofski on 4 September 1982.

David’s goal of becoming a member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was realized when he graduated from the 41st OHP Academy in June 1985. He was assigned Troop J in Enid. He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1998. In 2008, he transferred to the Officer Assistance Program, then to Troop K in Perry in 2010. David retired in 2012 after 27 years of dedicated service. David was very passionate about the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Cadet Lawman Program, serving in various positions including Commandant, in which he was able to touch the lives of many people across the state.

David and Sandi raised their family in his hometown of Waukomis. He was always trying to give back to his community. He served with the Waukomis Volunteer Fire Department from 1999 to 2016 as a firefighter/EMT. He loved watching his kids participate in sports and school activities, and because of that, he served on the Waukomis school board while Phillip and Adrienne were in school.

David loved his family, NASCAR, Oklahoma State football, and the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife Sandi with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Emily Ott; and daughter and son-in-law Adrienne and Naaman Weston; five grandchildren; Anndi, Fenway, Emersyn, N. George, and Rory; his brother Arben Ott and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Larama Ott, Carolyn Ruane, Lou Ann Robinette, and sister-in-law Ann Ott.
