October 2, 1940 - November 1, 2025
Carol “Kay” Atkinson passed away on November 1, 2025. Kay was born to Ben and Sophina Richert on October 2, 1940. She attended schools in Meno, Enid, Ringwood, and Central State University of Oklahoma. On September 5, 1959, Kay married Bobby Joe Atkinson. They had two sons, Lance and Garry.
Kay was passionate about her love for God, family, Oklahoma, and her hometown, Enid. A lifelong wheat farmer in Major County, Kay also enjoyed oil painting and selling real estate. In recent years, she attended the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church. Kay made blankets with Fleece Friends, which were donated to various charities, including Mercy House of Enid. Kay will be remembered for her fierce commitment and loyalty to family. She often said, “There’s nothing like family.” Kay devoted her life to letting those around her know they were loved, especially her three grandchildren. She never missed a ball game, performance, or event in which they were involved.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby “Bob” Joe Atkinson; her parents, Ben and Sophina Richert; step-mother, Velma Richert; sister, Obera Jean Bergdall; and brother, Roger Dean Richert. She is survived by her sons, Lance Atkinson (Melissa); Garry Atkinson (Deanna); three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Private family burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy House or Loaves and Fishes, both of Enid.
