PROPERTY SOLD:

The empty lot on S. Grand that was once home to the Grand Saloon has been sold to Napoli’s Italian Restaurant. The building began to collapse after being vacated and was eventually razed. Ismail Zakuti, owner of Napoli's, was the only bidder interested in the property after the city waited for it to go through the bidding process. The restaurant will use it as a parking lot. It was sold for $15,000.

NEW BUSINESS:

A very popular and successful “guys” store in Stillwater called Kinnunen Sales and Rental will be opening Monday, March 2 in the former Dennett’s Tire Center at 609 W. Purdue. They deal with contractor’s, remodelers, farmers and ranchers but also the general public for items like power tools, lawn and garden equipment and even 4 wheelers for ranchers.

NEW EAST SIDE HOTEL:

MAPC approved a land use amendment to the lot next to Greenbrier Nursing Home, located at 1225 E. Garriott. It was changed from Low Intensity Residential to High Intensity Industrial to make way for a Candlewood Suites hotel and possible restaurant.

BUSINESS EXPANDING:

Owner, Meagan Kamerbeek and her husband Jason have recently relocated to Enid for his work with Kellogg Brown & Root on the Koch plant expansion and her Dallas-based Handbag line will now be available in greater Oklahoma. BUSINESS RELOCATING:

Shear Inspirations has announced that after 17 years they will be expanding and relocating to a bigger location. They are relocating to 2411 Heritage Hills, Suite 2. They will be adding massages and other spa services in the future. They will be opening for Massages on February 17th and adding more services as they get moved.

To clarify any misconceptions, they have signed a new lease at the location of 2411 Heritage Trail, but did not purchase the business of B-Renued and are not the new owners of B-Renued which closed their doors recently.

NEW HOTELS:

There are two new hotels going up next to Lowe's. The smaller structure in the middle will be a hotel that specializes in guests needing rooms by the week or month, such as temp workers in the area. It will have 70 units.

NEW LOCATION FOR EVENT RENTALS:

The old Safeway/City Boots building at 800 W. Broadway has been transformed into Function Junction Event Center. It is a new space for event sand party hosting.They held their first big event on Valentine's by hosting the Youth & Family Services Valentines Gala.

There are three large rooms to choose from as well as many smaller spaces. Childcare, on site, will be available for specific hours and events. Beer will be available and you can bring in your own catering. There will also be office space available for those needing a single office.

CONGRATULATIONS:

John Groendyke will be inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed by Oklahoma State University. It recognizes alumni and former students with outstanding lifetime achievements in society and professional life.

John D. Groendyke of Enid, Okla. graduated from OSU in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in business. He currently serves as the CEO and chairman of the Groendyke Transport, Inc.

Groendyke was inducted to the Spears School of Business Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2013.

He serves as a member of the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees and is a life member of the OSU Alumni Association.

REMODEL:

Braum's on W. Willow street is receiving a complete remodel updating its outdated design. It will continue for 2-3 months but they are remaining open during the entire process. The restaurant will have new restrooms, seating, expanded grocery capabilities, expanded kitchen capabilities and expanded drive thru service.

RADIOSHACK IN ENID TO STAY OPEN:

Long-running electronics company RadioShack, which filed for bankruptcy last week, will see the closure of 1,784 stores across North America by March 31.

RadioShack plans for the closures to come in three waves, the first of which will be completed by Feb. 17 and see the closure of 162 stores. The second will see 986 stores closed by Feb. 28, followed by a final purge of 636 stores by the end of March.

Despite filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy, some stores will continue to exist. RadioShack operates 4,485 stores across the U.S. and it was reported General Wireless had plans to purchase between 1,500 and 2,400 stores. As part of an agreement with wireless service provider Sprint, 1,750 RadioShack stores will also be transformed into a combination Sprint/RadioShack retailer.

According to employees and their interactive map, the Enid store does not look to be closing. Stores in Ponca City, Altus, Claremore, OKC, Moore, Tulsa, Sapulpa and Broken Arrow will be closing in Oklahoma.

JOBS COMING TO ENID:

GEFCO announced they will be closing production in Loudon, TN, and will be moving production to their facility in Enid, Oklahoma, by June of 2015. The company said approximately 75 employees would be affected, but many of them will be offered the chance to remain with the company if they are willing to relocate.

GEFCO, Inc. is a world leader in the design and manufacture of portable drilling rigs and related equipment for the water well, environmental, groundwater monitoring, construction, mining and shallow oil & gas exploration and production industries.
