The memorial service for Barbara Sue Anderson is 11:00AM Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the Westminster Presbyterian Church under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. A private burial will precede the service.

Barbra Sue Anderson was born on May 15, 1932 in Hugo, OK to parents Claud and Dortheal Patterson and passed away March 2, 2020 in Enid, OK.

Barbara attended Hugo schools where she graduated in 1950. She was a good student and was active in school activities including cheerleading, performing as a majorette in the high school band, and tennis. Her junior year of high school she and her tennis partner, Nancy Williams, reached the state semi-finals in the state’s largest class. Barbara took piano lessons beginning in the first grade and continuing until her high school graduation and also took organ lessons her junior and senior years and shared her talents in the Hugo First Baptist Church. After graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was a lifelong Sooner fan.

In the summer of 1952, Barbara moved to Dallas and attended Draughon’s Business College saying she needed to earn a living to help support her future husband, Gunnar Anderson, who entered Baylor Dental School that fall. They were married on December 27, 1952 in the First Baptist Church of Hugo. She became a secretary to the president of Dresser Industries in downtown Dallas and worked there until Gunnar’s graduation in 1956. Gunnar joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. While stationed in Denver, Barbara and Gunnar’s two children, Karen and Julie, were born.

Gunnar was discharged from the air force in the summer of 1958 and the family moved to Enid, OK where Gunnar joined the dental practice of Dr. Earl Mabry. Barbara became a homemaker and a member of Junior Welfare League and Chapter DO, P.E.O. where she held many offices including President. She was very active in her girls’ school activities, She started playing tennis again and she and her playing partner, Willa Jane Cummins, won several double championships. Barbara was a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church and later a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

When Barbara became a grandmother, she spent her summers entertaining her five grandkids at her backyard pool and hosted many birthday parties there. She was the best Grammy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Julie Boykin, in 2003. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, her brother Dudley Patterson and his wife Ann of Plano, TX, and her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Jay Knapik of Enid. Also surving are her grandchildren, Gunnar and Megan Boykin, Conway, AK, Katie Knapik, Oklahoma City, Dee and Amanda Boykin, Yazoo City, MS Molly and Andrew Bayne, Dallas, TX, and Ben and Haley Boykin, Madison, MS and great-grandchildren, Julie Scott, Hayes, Max, Shea, and Mason. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Buckles.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to either OMRF(Alzeimer’s Division) or to Wesminster Presbyterian Church.
