Enid Buzz Plans To Cover The Aug. 21 Solar Eclipse

ENID, OK - For the first time in nearly a century, the continental United States will be engulfed in a single shadow. It’s been 99 years since a total solar eclipse has stretched from coast-to-coast, and we haven’t seen one on US soil since 1979. On the morning of August 21st, a shadow will begin to move across the entirety of the United States. The narrow line of totality will directly hit only 12 states but every inch of the lower 48 will see at least a partial solar eclipse.
-
The BuzzHead Media crew are planning on heading north to bring Enid the full perspective of the August 21 solar eclipse. We will be traveling as close to a point of totality as we can on August 21. We will send back photos, video and audio of the event.

Whether the partial eclipse above your location is 48, 58, or 98 percent. Only totality reveals the true celestial spectacle: the diamond ring, the Sun’s glorious corona, strange colors in our sky, and seeing stars in the daytime.

The total phase of this solar eclipse is not visible in Oklahoma, but it can be observed here as a partial solar eclipse. The Moon will cover a large portion of the Sun, so it will be a spectacular sight in Enid. The max coverage in Enid will be around 1:04pm on Monday, August 21. The duration of the eclipse will be 2 hours and 57 minutes beginning at 11:35am thru 2:33pm.

The NOC Mackie Planetarium has 2 telescopes that can safely look directly at the sun and will be open to view the eclipse. In addition, they will hand out 3D glasses for the public (while supplies last) to safely view the eclipse. Free admission but a donation of a non-perishable food item for Loaves and Fishes will be appreciated. NOC Mackie Planetarium located on Hedges between Randolph & Maine.

This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 38 years. The last one occurred February 26, 1979. Before that one, you have to go back to March 7, 1970. The next North American total solar eclipse after August 21 will be in 2024.

We are currently looking for a $300 sponsor that will help us make the trip and send back as much footage as we can. Our sponsor will be featured on this page and throughout the entire adventure to capture footage of the eclipse. Please contact Curtis Tucker at buzz@enidbuzz.com if you'd like to be a part of this fantastic event.
