Graveside service for Alice Karpe, age 81, formally of Enid, will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Gilliland officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Born on May 17th, 1943, to Ollie and Jefferson Wingo in Caney, Oklahoma. Alice's life really began when in June of 1952, she was adopted by Vita and Walter Thomas, who took her as their own daughter and with unconditional love, she learned to love the Lord as her Heavenly Father.
Raised in Woodward, she graduated from Woodward High School and later Phillips University in Enid. While attending Phillips, Alice met Gary Karpe, fell in love, and were married on December 20th, 1964. Together they raised two sons, Kevin Karpe of Edmond and Robin Karpe (deceased). Alice has two grandchildren, Maggie Klumpp, her husband Austin and grandchildren Heidi, Kyler and Kalvin of Ponca City, and Kyle Karpe and his wife Meagan of Bixby. Other surviving family members include nephews Jason and Johnny Sanders and her niece, Mindy Holcomb.
Alice dedicated over twenty-six years to shaping young minds and hearts in the classroom, inspiring generations of students with her patience, and unwavering belief in the power of education. Known for her warm smile, gentle guidance, and boundless creativity, Alice was more than a teacher-she was a mentor, a role model, and a cherished member of the community.
After retiring from the Enid Public School system, Alice continued to contribute to the lives of others through volunteer work, reading programs, and service to the First Baptist Church of Enid. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, both inside and outside the classroom.
Viewing at 10:00 on May 28th at Ladusau Evans Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Enid continuing Alice's lifelong commitment to kindness and her community.
