ENID, Okla. - Witnesses began sending us photos of a semi truck that had collided with a train east of Enid early Monday morning. The accident on Highway 412 left train cars derailed and the semi truck almost unrecognizable.
-
It wasn't long before reports of a fatality also started coming in. As we posted limited information on our Facebook page we learned that family members in Arkansas had been notified and were in shock but were desperate to learn more about what could have caused the accident.
-
Delbert Shreve of Lincoln, Arkansas was identified as the driver of the truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Highway patrol and train officials continue to investigate the collision. Witnesses at the train crossing have described how Shreve's truck failed to stop and hit the train causing a ball of fire.
-
Shreve leaves behind a wife and four children. Relatives online have asked for prayers and any information that witnesses may have. Shreve's sister, Karin Lea, has set up a Go Fund Me account to help the family pay for funeral expenses. Any donations are much appreciated.

If it happened at a passive crossing, no lights or gates, before sunrise it is very difficult to see a train after the locomotives have passed over the crossing. There have been cases where the black tank cars actually allow your headlights to shine on the road because the tank cars are up high enough and there is really nothing under them to block the light. Driving into trains passing over a crossing is a real problem in this country and the railroads refuse to pay for reflective tape to be installed on the sides of all rolling stock.
