St. Gregory holding Service of Remembrance

ENID, OK - The loss of a child is devastating. Grieving parents can work through their stages of grief—denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance—with the help of friends and grief support groups. But the parents of a miscarried child frequently don’t have the opportunity to name, meet, or even say goodbye to their son or daughter. Some don’t even know the gender of their lost child. Some may not have even told friends or family about the pregnancy.
-
A stillbirth happens unexpectedly; half of all stillbirths occur in pregnancies that seemed problem-free. Although parents who lose a child at birth may have a chance to say goodbye, the unexpectedness of the loss can be overwhelming. Parents may “go through the motions” of grief while making final arrangements for the child, but in actuality, they are too stunned to progress through their grief.
-
To give these parents an opportunity to grieve their loss, a Service of Healing and recognition of the babies life will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Friday November 2nd. The prayer service will remember children who have died during pregnancy or childbirth, and is open to people of all faith communities. Recognizing the loss families have suffered can be an important step in the healing process. Couples and women often need to grieve the loss and society doesn’t always offer the opportunity. This prayer service will recognize the loss and focus on the healing nature of God to comfort those who are grieving.

The service will be held at 7pm, Friday November 2, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 1924 W. Willow.
