The services celebrating and honoring the life of Shirley Lou Ellen (McClure) Mason 87, of Enid, will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday October 31, 2023, in the Garriot Road Church of Christ. Complete care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, life celebration home. Shirley Lou Ellen (McClure) Mason, born on May 28, 1936, to Charlie Leander (C.L.) McClure and Willie (Haley) McClure, passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 87.

She was raised on a family farm north of Gotebo, Oklahoma, and was the youngest child of three. Shirley developed her lifelong love for nature, animals, sewing, and southern cooking while growing up on the farm. Even after moving to town, she remained a farm girl at heart. Shirley attended Lake Valley School and graduated in 1954 in a class of 8 seniors. While she was a freshman in high school and attending the Gotebo Church of Christ, she met a young red-headed man named Marland Mason. They became engaged on December 24, 1955, and were married on June 29, 1956, at the Gotebo Church of Christ. They made their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma, while Marland completed his Bachelor's Degree in Education. Shirley took on the role of wife and soon-to-be mother as they added three children to their family: David, Connie, and Todd. In 1961, Marland accepted a teaching position in Olustee, Oklahoma, where the family lived for 9 years. During this time, Shirley became a beautician, a career she continued into the mid-seventies. In 1969, the family moved to Altus, Oklahoma, where Marland began teaching for the Altus Public Schools, and they made their home for the next 40 years. While in Altus, they were members of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. In 2012, they decided to move to Enid, Oklahoma, allowing them to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Shirley loved to cook for her entire family, attend sporting events, where many times she brought food for all the families, and was very active in her church at Garriott Road Church of Christ. Shirley and Marland were married for 64 years until Marland passed on February 11, 2021.

Those left to honor Shirley are her 3 children: David Mason and wife Melanie of Enid, Connie (Mason) Walker and husband Bill David of Enid, and Todd Mason of Edmond. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Leander Walker and wife Randilyn, Davin Walker and wife Sheena, Keira (Mason) Reimer and husband Kory, Grant Mason and wife Kalli, Collin Mason and wife Madison, Garrett Mason, Coulter Freeman, and Declan Freeman. She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Ella, Kynlee, and Kollins Walker, Parker and Hayes Reimer, and Sam and Charlie Mason.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents C. L and Willie McClure, her sister Wilma and brother-in-law Chap Watkins, her brother and sister-in-law Billy and Vonita McClure, two nephews Jack Watkins and Larry McClure, and one niece Diane Dees.

Shirley was a wonderful mother, friend, wife, and Christian and will be missed greatly. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
