Scholarship in memory of Keith Vermillion

ENID, OK - Family and friends established the Keith Vermillion Memorial Scholarship to honor his life and legacy, and celebrating the impact he had on those he knew.
-
Vermillion was a member of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Ranger football team from 1999 to the year of his graduation in 2004. He married his high school sweetheart and fellow Northwestern grad, Amanda Rice in 2003. In 2011, the two welcomed their daughter, Emily.
-
Vermillion was a physical education teacher at Lakeview Elementary School in Norman, Okla., for ten years before being diagnosed with cancer. He coached numerous sports, including his favorite, soccer.
-
Courage, compassion, humor and optimism were but a few of the words used to describe Vermillion and it was all of these characteristics that helped him in his battle against cancer. During his medical treatments, Vermillion remained steadfast in his love for his family and his zest for life and adventure. With strength, a positive spirit and perseverance, Vermillion endured those treatments and remained an inspiration to those who knew him. On Oct. 9, 2017, Vermillion passed at the age of 37.

“Keith touched many lives, especially young people, in a positive way during his short time on earth,” said Skeeter Bird, CEO, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association. “It is appropriate that his life will continue to positively influence students with this memorial scholarship. We, at Northwestern, are grateful his family and friends have allowed us to continue to honor Keith’s impact with this generous scholarship.”
-
Those applying for the Keith Vermillion Memorial Scholarship must be continuing students with first priority going to a student-athlete who is either a punter or kicker for the Ranger football team. If there are no punters or kickers eligible, the scholarship may be awarded to a student majoring in Sports and Health Science. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average based on a 4.0 scale. Students must complete the scholarship application form through the Financial Aid Office on any Northwestern campus. The scholarship may be applied toward university-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books and room and board.
