December 21, 1943 - October 4, 2025
Salye M. Gorrell, 81 of Enid, passed away on Saturday, October 4 2025 in Oklahoma City.
Salye was born on December 21, 1943 in Los Angeles, California to Kenneth N. and Dorothy M. (Fox) Yoder. She grew up in Hawthorne, CA, and graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1961. On October 24, 1964 she married Wayne F. Gorrell, Sr. in Gardena, CA, and they had two children, Wayne F. Gorrell, Jr. and Tracye Mae Gorrell. Salye began working as a bookkeeper after her divorce. In 1976 Salye moved to Lahoma, OK with her parents, sister Grace E. Yoder and her 2 children.
At the age of 16 Salye purchased her first horse. She earned many trophies and ribbons for showing horses. She also trained, and breed horses and judged horse shows. Horses were one of her passions in life. Salye took great joy in the fact that she taught her children to ride and show horses also. Another talent that she had was being an artist. She painted with oils, chalk, pencil, etc. Most of her paintings were of horses
Salye worked at Rambler Energy for 24 years as a bookkeeper and retired in November 2024. The owners (Rod and Alice Ylitalo and their entire family) became Salye’s second family. She was extremely grateful to have such a close relationship with them.
Salye is survived by her children Wayne Jr. and Shelley Gorrell of Lahoma, and Tracye and Darin Morris of Enid; grandchildren Derric & Dianna Morris of Enid, Johnathan & Jill Tietz of Enid, Travis & Shaylene Tietz of Enid, Quinton & Stephannie Morris of Enid, Jeremy Biagini of Oklahoma City and Becca Biagini of Enid; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
