Robert A. DeMoss

The funeral for Robert Allen DeMoss is 12:00PM Saturday, June 10, 2023 in the New Hope United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by Reverend J.D. Ward and Reverend Bob Younts, both of Oklahoma City. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Robert died peacefully in Oklahoma City on June 2, 2023.

Reverend Robert Allen DeMoss was born on July 8, 1929 in Laverne, Oklahoma to Harley and Edith DeMoss. In 1944, the family moved to Enid, where Robert attended Enid High School in 1947 and Phillips University in 1951. Robert attended Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Illinois and graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. While in school, he served congregations in the United Methodist Churches in Orland Park, Illinois and Landenberg, Pennsylvania.

Robert was a caring and devoted minister in the United Methodist Church for 35 years. His first church in Oklahoma in Crescent, and he subsequently moved with his family to serve churches in all four corners of the state, from Watonga to Vinita to Idabel and Durant to Woodward and back to Enid as his last appointment. After retiring, he served as an interim minister at Hennessey, Canton, Hitchcock, Cheyenne, Geary, and Kremlin, Oklahoma. Robert is remembered by all in the congregations where he served as a kind and compassionate minister who was always available in times of need. In his ministry and his life, Robert always followed Christ's call to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, and visit the sick and imprisoned among us.

Robert married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise DeLapp of Enid, on December 15, 1950. He was then serving as a student pastor at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. They had 5 children, Micheal Layne, Jerrel Lynn, John Mark, Marla Louise, and Martha Renee. Robert and Mary were married for 49 years until her death in 2000.

On November 24, 2001, Robert married Joyce Hemphill of Enid, who served with him at several churches, teaching Sunday School classes and working with high school girls. Robert was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted and loving husband. In his later years, you could usually find him reading his Bible or watching a ballgame. He loved his O.U. sports teams.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife Mary, his parents, and his two older sisters, Theta Lyda and Marietta Carris, both of Enid. Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home in Oklahoma City, Michael and Brianna of Oklahoma City, Jerrel and Jana DeMoss of Reno, Ohio, Mark and Sharmin DeMoss of The Colony, Texas, Martha Keown of Jefferson City, Missouri, Renee DeMoss of Oklahoma City, Mark and Miriam Stuart of Redman, Washington, Noella Doughty of Oklahoma City, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
