Reverend, John F. Whittington, Lt. Colonel, Retired

Colonel,Retired, 85, Midwest City, will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Willow View United Methodist Church with Pastor Lesly Broadbent officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the United States Army. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors.

Reverend Whittington was born on April 14, 1930 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of W. K. and Ora Garnett Hinkle Whittington, and passed away on April 11, 2016 at Alliance Midwest City Hospital. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma City, attending Capital Hill High School where he excelled at Football, graduating high school with the class of 1949. Reverend Whittington married Josephine Belle Minton in Oklahoma City on October 12, 1949. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving three years. They returned to Oklahoma where John worked for Phillips Petroleum. He returned to active duty, this time in the Army, in 1969 and retired with rank of Lt. Colonel in 1993. Reverend Whittington graduated from Phillips University with a Masters of Divinity. He was ordained in the Methodist Church and served many churches, including, Kremlin and Nash, Hunter, Seiling and Taloga, Tipton and Manitou, Leedy and Camargo, Custer City and Independence, Britton Road in Oklahoma City,Tyrone, and retiring from Spencer. They retired to the family farm in Okemah, later moving to Midwest City. Reverend Whittington received his 50 year pin from the Mason's.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Jo) of the residence; sons, Kendall and wife Shirlene Whittington of Blackwell, Larry and wife Dee Whittington of Peoria, Arizona, John “Jack” and significant other Kandi McDaniel of Midwest City, Robert and wife Delia Richter of Drummond, Wesley Richter and significant other, Laura Bates of Okemah; daughters, Becky and husband Harold Noell of Enid, Bertie and husband Steve Holliday of Enid; 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren. two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in law, Gladys Whittington of Oklahoma City, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Reverend Whittington was preceded in passing by his parents, daughter, Deborah, daughter-in-law, Karen, brother, Tommy, sister, Ora Dale Rodgers, one great-granddaughter, Baby Rummel. Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
