Norris Gene White, resident of rural Ponca City, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, November 3, 2015. He was 77 years of age.
Norris was born May 29th, 1938 in Ponca City a son of Edward Napoleon “Ed” White and Lola May (Davis) White. He attended Ponca City Schools.
In July of 1955 he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific (partial occupation of Japan). He was honorably discharged in August of 1957. After his time served in the Navy, he became a man of many trades working in the Carpenters Union as well as the Laborers’ Union.
Norris married Rosalee Gillespie on October 20th 1973.With this union, he felt blessed to welcome Rose’s 6 children and raised them as his own. His enjoyments were his family, gardening, riding motorcycles, woodworks and basically any outside activities. Most would say his favorite holiday would have to be the 4th of July where you could always find him shooting off a mass amount of fireworks with the grandkids. Others may say his favorite time of year was Thanksgiving and Christmas… strictly for the food!
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Johnson and husband Carl of Ponca City, Joe Gillespie and wife Chyrl of Ponca City, and Sam Gillespie and wife Nancy of Oklahoma City; 18 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Rosalee; one son, Gary Lee Gillespie; two daughters Betty Jester and Vickie Alsup; three sisters, Lucille Connelly, Arlie Hister, and Delta Greenhagen; and three brothers, George, Earl and Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 at Faith Tabernacle Church with Pastor Don Stanton presiding. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the kind guidance of Amy Sittsworth Funeral Service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Navy.
