NOC Regents Honor Tom Dugger

NOC - At their Oct. 19 meeting, Northern Oklahoma College Regents honored Tom Dugger, board chair and senator-elect, following notice of Gov. Mary Fallin’s acceptance of his resignation from the board to be sworn in as State Senator next month.

NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans presented Dugger with a plaque recognizing his “outstanding service” to the college during his term as regent. She read a proclamation stating that “the Northern Oklahoma College community recognizes the meaningful and significant impact Regent Dugger has taken on our behalf” during the years 2014-2016.

On behalf of Evans and Associates, Ponca City, Regent Linda Brown presented two checks in the amount of $5000 to the NOC Foundation Scholarship Fund to be allocated at the Tonkawa and Enid locations.

During the business meeting, Regents heard a presentation by Dr. Cathy Moore, language arts division chair, showcasing her division. Moore gave a breakdown of enrollment figures by major and by class. The majority of students enrolled in Supplement to Composition, a course providing help in basic English skills, had tested out of the class. She commented that one-fifth of the language arts faculty held doctoral degrees.

Evans reported that the women’s soccer team, currently ranked sixth in the nation, is the only one in Oklahoma to be nationally ranked all season. In addition, she commended the executive team and the physical plant for the work on Central Hall, commenting, “The interior change is very striking.”
Dr. Pam Stinson, vice president for academic affairs, updated the Strategic Planning report regarding Northern’s accomplishments in meeting goals for quality instruction.

Personnel actions included the hiring of Madelyn Morris, registration specialist at NOC Enid and Ruth Ailey, bookstore assistant at NOC Tonkawa. Resignations were received from J. Wayne Hudson, bookstore assistant, and Misty Fath, NOC Foundation gift processing coordinator, both at NOC Tonkawa.

Anita Simpson, vice president for financial affairs, reported total net assets of $7,737,602.52 for the fiscal year 2016-2017 and presented September financial reports and October allocation requests for the Regents’ approval. Regents also approved the Employee Policy Handbook update regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Present were regents Tom Dugger, Stillwater, chair; Jeff Cowan, Ponca City, vice chair; Stan Brownlee, Enid, secretary; and Linda Brown, Ponca City, member. Prior to the meeting, they attended the Central Hall Open House.
